Hello Here4u,
This is my try:

I)Translate into English.

1) We got her to repair the damage she made.

2) Should you really need that vaccine before you leave?(or before your leaving).
3) He might have been held up by the traffic for he isn't usually late( or he isn't used to being late).
4) We will have to train a special unit to fight against the corruption of public administration in this country .
5) If only he was there,he would be able to help us and answer in our place(or for us).
6) What a horrible odour,he must have smoked in the room forgetting to open the window.

II)Complete the sentences.
1) He wouldn't have treated you so unkindly unless..you had apologised for having said such a lie about him.
2) He didn't shout for help for fear..that he should draw the lion's attention.
3) Unless you tell him the truth,he..will pack up and go and won't trust you any more!
4) Would you mind repeating,otherwise..they won't pay attention to your remark about the new organization.
5) I couldn't stay to the end of the lecture though..I would be delighted to follow the whole demonstration.

III)Translate into French.

Thank you very much for this very interesting exercise.
I wish you a very nice week.

Thanks for this exercise ! Here's my try.
I'm still leaving 2 possibilities whenever I find them equally convenient .
I.
1) She was made to repair the damage she had been responsible for (or : she had caused).
2) Do you really need to get this vaccine before your departure ? (Must me semble moins approprié car il n'est pas question d'obligation morale mais de réelle utilité et nécessité pour la santé)
3) He must have been delayed by traffic since he's not used to being so late...
4) A special unit will have to be set up in order to fight against the administration corruption in this country.
5) If only he had been there, he could have helped us and answered for us.
6) What a horrible smell, he must have smoked in this room without remembering to open the window.

II
1) He wouldn't have treated you so unkindly unless you had reminded him about the £ 2000 he had been indebted to you for one year.
2) He didn't shout for help for fear some people might laugh at him (or : for fear that he should have to explain why he was lying in this position.)
3) Unless you tell him the truth, he won't be able to speak on behalf of you for your benefit.
4) Would you mind repeating, otherwise I'm afraid I won't be able to answer your question ?
5) I couldn't stay to the end of the lecture, though I really think it was an awesome one ! The lecturer was great, and the subject so enthralling !

III

III. Translate into French

1) She was made to repair the damage she had been liable for
2) Do you really need to get this vaccine before your departure ?
3) He must have been delayed by traffic because he's not used to being late...
4) A special unit will have to be trained in order to fight against the administration corruption in this country.
5) If only he had been there, he could have helped us and answered for us
6) What a horrible smell, he must have smoked in this room without remembering to open the window.

1.He wouldn’t have treated you so unkindly unless you explain why you didn’t attend his English lesson: you missed his lesson because you had caught the flue. and you didn’t want to pass this virus on the whole English class.

2.He didn’t shout for help for fear her girl friend understands that he couldn’t swim as far as the bank of the river. She risked concluding, he was not really the presumed well-known champion swimmer.

3.Unless you tell him the truth he will never understand why your husband had left you in the lurch on the middle of this lonely road and above all you were barefooted…

4.Would you mind repeating, otherwise we run the risk of taking the wrong road at the crossroad that indicates a few unknown directions

5. I couldn’t stay to the end of the lecture, though do you mind sending me an e-mail that will summarize the main elements of this remarkable lecture. Can I rely on you?

Hello dear Here4u!

I) Translate into English :
She was made TO repair the damage she'd caused.

Is it absolutely necessary for you to take this vaccine before leaving? Do you really have to take, etc.

He must have been delayed by heavy traffic as he isn't normaly late.

A specific unit will have to be trained to fight corruption in this country.

If only he'd been there, he could have helped us and answered for us.

6) Quelle horrible odeur !
What a terrible smell! He must have smoked in the room forgetting to open the window

II) Complete the sentences respecting the necessary grammar :
1) He wouldn't have treated you so unkindly unless he was drunk.
2) He didn't shout for help for fear of waking...the cat.
3) Unless you tell him the truth, he'll go on worrying you with the same questions
4) Would you mind repeating, otherwise you might get a below-average mark...
5) I couldn't stay to the end of the lecture, though interesting since dealing with topical issues.

Thank you for this new exercise, of course, and so much for choosing this excerpt which reminds me of reading the adventures of these little scallywags so jubilantly...I was young and not really harassed, but...

You were right to be frightened! I wouldn't just have scolded you!

Well! You're partly forgiven because you gave me an excellent first sentence! clearly the funniest one...
BUT... you chose the easy way out for sentence 2 and don't pretend you had an important appointment preventing you from doing the whole exercise ...

Hello dear hardworkers !

Here's the collective correction :

I) Translate into English:
She has been made (was made) to repair the damage she had done.

- to make somebody DO something = structure ‘causative’ (mais évitons les ‘gros mots’ qui font peur) qui au passif donne ‘to be made TO do something.

Do you really need to have this vaccine before your departure?

He must have been delayed by the traffic because he’s not used to being late.

- Avoir l’habitude de = to be used to + V + ing : pour révision, voir test [[105239]]

A special unit will have to be trained to fight against the corruption of the administration (civil servants = ) in this country.
- A nouveau ‘on’, agent indéterminé … => passif !

If only he had been there, he could have helped us and answered for us.

- ‘Si seulement’ = regret = ‘If only + past perfect’. ou 'I wish he had been there'
- ‘Il aurait pu’ = ‘possibilité passée’=> ‘could have + participe passé’.Attention !

What a terrible stench ! He must have smoked in the room and forgotten to open the window.

II) Complete the sentences respecting the necessary grammar:
1) He wouldn't have treated you so unkindly unless you had been really mean to him!

A revoir, donc !
2) He didn't shout for help for fear he might frighten you!

- ‘for fear + might’, le plus souvent … ‘Should’ n’était pas faux, mais moins recommandé …
3) Unless you tell him the truth, he will never know it!

4) Would you mind repeating, otherwise he will never understand.
- ‘Otherwise’ = sinon.

5) I couldn't stay to the end of the lecture, though I found it very interesting…

III) Translate into French:
Huckleberry came and went, at his own free will. [...] He didn't have to go to school or to church, or call any being master or obey anybody; he could go fishing or swimming where and when he chose and stay as long as it suited him; he could sit up as late as he pleased; he was the first boy that went barefoot in the spring and the last to resume leather in the fall; he could swear wonderfully. Everything that goes to make life precious, that boy had. So thought every harassed, respectable boy in his town!

Mark Twain . The Adventures of Tom Sawyer 1876

- (2 bis) : 'sit up' ici, signifie 'rester debout' => 'veiller'.
- (4) : ‘to resume leather’ = littéralement ‘à reprendre le cuir’ … Bon ! OK … des chaussures … Alors, lesquelles ?

Bravo ! You're all S

" he could sit up as late as he pleased"

Very good point Maxwell! You're the only one who's following ! or rather who has already taken enough time to look at this correction in details!
Thank you for noticing that I forgot this sentence. It really meant that Huck, like most young people and teenagers, doesn't like going to bed early, so he stayed up late! (,which is a privilege!) He considered he had the same 'rights'as adults.
Thanks again! Have a good weekend!

he could sit up as late as he pleased; peut-on la traduire par : il pouvait rester dehors aussi longtemps qu'il voulait.

Hi tereda!

Hello,
...he was the first boy that went barefoot in the spring and the last to resume leather in the fall;
