Hello everybody/Bonjour tout le monde
-READY TO BE CORRECTED

I)Translate into English
1. Follow my advice and give me a favour! Do not come near my brother; He really does not need you!

2. This thug has a history of burglary. You will have no problem to have a search warrant.

3. When the shock has calmed down, when she feels the wound, she will imagine possibilities she had never contemplated. Sometimes, reinventing yourself can even be a blessing.

4.What will you do when he breaks his pipe, you who have always counted on him? Life is not a romance novel! - I'd rather not think about it.

5.Suddenly the children began to sing. I cleared my throat and accompanied them. Everyone, we gave ourselves to heart.

II) Translate into French: Last episode…
“Oh, despair! Oh, devastation! Now, too late came the sudden realization that I had unwittingly damned myself to a hell from which there was no escape.
“You ate them for money. You can eat them for love.”
What possible argument could I muster against that? There was none. Did I eat the peas? You bet I did. I ate them that day and every other time they were served thereafter. The five dollars were quickly spent. My grandmother passed away a few years later. But the legacy of the peas lived on, as it lives on to this day. If I so much as curl my lip when they are served (because after all, I still hate the horrid little things), my mother repeats the dreaded words one more time:
“You ate them for money,” she says. “You can eat them for love.”
Rick BEYER, True Tales of American Life.

Rick BEYER, True Tales of American Life.

IV)
OTHERWISE, GAMBLERS don't SCRIMP on everything, THEREFORE they offer UNBELIEVABLE things like gifts except DAFFODILS as they IMAGINE people love them even the REDDISH people.

Hello, dear Here4u!

Intriguée par l'exercice IV, je me laisse tenter...Wait and see!

Hello!
Please do !

If I write "and, therefore", do you accept it instead? I hope so!

Hello here4u
Here is what I tried to do. Ready for correction

I) Translate into English:
1. Follow my advice and do me a favour ! Stay away from my brother; He doesn’t really need you !
2. That thug has an history of breaking and entering. You will have no trouble for a search warrant.
3.When the chock calms down, as soon as she feels the injury, she will imagine
Things she had never contemplated. Sometimes, to reinvent oneself may be even a blessing.
4.What will you do when he kicks his bucket, because you has always relied on him? Life is not a romance novel ! I prefer not to think about it.
5.Suddenly, child began to sing. I cleared my throat and I sang with them. All of us enjoyed wholeheartedly.

IV) Playing with words :
While the GAMBLERS are thinking to win on the final match we IMAGINED that our son has SCRIMPED for months to see his favorite players, OTHERWISE, he could not see the UNBELIEVABLE young girl with REDDISH hairs offering a DAFFODILS bunch to the winner and THEREFORE to do not attend to the trophy ceremony.

Hello, Dears !

D'accord ?

Hello legrandmalin!

Je valide la phrase : mais : "the one who know", the one what? => "the one who knowS" or "the ones who know" ...TherEfore et je ne sais pas si l'anthropomorphisme appliqué aux DAFFODILS est vraiment convaincant ...
On verra!

Hello ! FINALLY, ONE OF YOUR SENTENCES HAD BEEN LEFT OUT! Awfully sorry! It's in A.

It took me the whole evening to transform some of your sentences "Playing with words" and to find out which ones were your "last words"!
Please, next time, delete the "bad one" when you write another one, or better, respect the rules and write an only sentence ...

A. GAMBLERS: “fortune hunters” who make ambitious “REDDISH poppies” IMAGINE being wonderful “DAFFODILS” and, thanks to influential backing, without SCRIMPING on money, let them reach important political positions, OTHERWISE unachievable; THEREFORE they will be bound up with their principal’s speculative purposes, thus establishing UNBELIEVABLE connections between policy and unscrupulous financial interests.(50)

B. DAFFODILS do IMAGINE that GAMBLERS can SCRIMP and THEREFORE it can also be false and UNBELIEVABLE but OTHERWISE the one who knows that they are wrong become REDDISH. (28)

C.My neighbour, this inveterate GAMBLER won the lottery yesterday; THEREFORE he won’t SCRIMP to buy this UNBELIEVABLE restaurant called the DAFFODILS, with its REDDISH roughcast; OTHERWISE, he might IMAGINE getting off to some tropical climate (36)

D. You told me you could both IMAGINE that SCRIMPING and saving GAMBLERS could exist while DAFFODILS couldn't be REDDISH, but, unfortunately, I know OTHERWISE and THEREFORE, I find your statement bizarre, not to say UNBELIEVABLE. (36)

E. It's UNBELIEVABLE, there are already REDDISH leaves; you’d never have IMAGINED that, THEREFORE as sporting GAMBLERS let’s do the right thing and give me my 5 dollars OTHERWISE I’ll tell your wife you've purchased DAFFODILS for your lover and have been SCRIMPING for months to move in with her. (49)

F. We are both GAMBLERS ; and THEREFORE I IMAGINE I can bet that you won't offer an UNBELIEVABLE bunch of DAFFODILS to our English teacher Here4u, without a REDDISH face and after SCRIMPING enough money to buy them ; OTHERWISE you will lose your reputation on this site.(53)

G. While the GAMBLERS are thinking of winning the final match we IMAGINED that our son had SCRIMPED for months to see his favorite players, OTHERWISE, he could not see the UNBELIEVABLE young girl with REDDISH hair offering a bunch of DAFFODILS to the winner and THEREFORE to attend the trophy ceremony. (51)

H. Unless proved OTHERWISE, I think GAMBLERS do not SCRIMP on everything ; THEREFORE, they may offer UNBELIEVABLE gifts to their beloved except DAFFODILS, since they IMAGINE women scarcely like them, especially the REDDISH ones. (33)

I. It’s UNBELIEVABLE, my REDDISH-haired NEPHEW who is a confirmed GAMBLER, unable to SCRIMP one pound, won a lot of money at horse racing ; THEREFORE, he has been able to buy a farm in order to cultivate DAFFODILS and other flowers ; he had OTHERWISE imagined to join a farming community. (51)

FROM HERE ,I HAD TO MAKE QUITE A NUMBER OF CHANGES TO RESPECT THE RULES ; (NEXT TIME, I WON’T AND THE AUTHORS WILL BE OUT !)
J. These handsome REDDISH haired GAMBLERS have IMAGINED to offer their girlfriends a bunch of DAFFODILS ; THEREFORE, they succeeded in SCRIMPING, as UNBELIEVABLE as it may sound; OTHERWISE they would have had to dye their hair bright green! (38)

K. IMAGINE two GAMBLERS who, THEREFORE, are SCRIMPING and saving any penny to assuage their passion : Robert, OTHERWISE Nosey-Bob and Joseph, otherwise Fishy-Joe, rather shifty but soppy enough to buy very expensive REDDISH DAFFODILS on Mother’s day… UNBELIEVABLE isn’t it ?(40)

L. IMAGINE a young man (, which seemed completely UNBELIEVABLE) who came to see his mother with DAFFODILS, slightly REDDISH ones ; yes, he who was unable to SCRIMP a penny, playing his salary with other GAMBLERS; she thought that THEREFORE, something had changed, OTHERWISE he wouldn't have come. 47 words

Courage .... and THE FORCE.

Hello, Dearest Friends!

I) Translate into English:
Follow my advice and do me a favour! Stay away from/ Don’t get near my brother ; he really doesn’t need you… and is much better off without you.
- Suis mon conseil : follow your advice/ take my advice/En , "take advice from someone" signifie "consulter quelqu’un pour prendre conseil" ; pas en .
- Rendre service = to be helpful/ to help out/ to do someone a favour/ to give a hand/
- « Ne t’approche pas ». = «Don’t come near»/ get near/ approach/ come close/ draw near/ ou, à la forme affirmative : keep off/ stay away from/ stay clear of /stay off/
« ... doesn’t need to/ doesn’t have to étaient plus forts que « needn’t » qui passait mal. / he’s much better off without you.

That yob has priors for burglary. You’ll have no problem to get a search warrant for his home.
- « That » est péjoratif par rapport à «this».
- «un voyou » = a lowlife/ a yob/ lout/ thug/ bandit/ yobbo/ (US)a hoodlum/ a roughneck/ thug is a strong word to describe someone, and it makes it strong and more formal.
- « des antécédents » = a history of/ a record/ priors for/ a backstory/ a history of breaking and entering/ burglary./ record of burglary"/"has a burglary record/ a previous history for burglary/a history of breaking and entering;
- Vol avec effraction = a break in(to) / a smash and grab= vol après casse de vitrine.
- « Un mandat de perquisition » = a search warrant.

When the shock wears off, when she feels all the hurt, she’ll consider possibilities she’d never have thought of. Sometimes, reinventing oneself can even be a blessing.
- When the shock has calmed down/ subsides/ has subsided/ wears off/ has worn off/
- when she feels/ when she has felt/
- la blessure= the hurt/ the injury/ the wound (plutôt physique)/ the harm= le mal/ a scar/
- se calmer = to abate/ to blow over/to wear off/ to calm down/ cool down/ cool off/ quiet down/ settle/ settle down/ simmer down/ subside/ die down/ quieten/
- "know how to reinvent oneself"/ keen on + ing, bent on, yearn for, inclined to, aspire to, relish
- ... elle n’avait jamais envisagées … = action antérieure au passé = past perfect.
- she’d never have thought of (= conditionnel passé = she would never have thought of ) ; she’ d never thought of = she had never thought of (= past perfect) (d'emblée, j'avais mis le conditionnel passé qui convenait mieux au contexte et à la concordance des temps.)
- une bénédiction = a blessing/ a godsend/

"What will you do when he kicks the bucket , as you’ve always relied on him? Life is no romance story!" "I'd rather not think about it! "
- « Que feras-tu ? » = proposition interrogative directe.
- " Casser sa pipe" = expression idiomatique française signifiant « mourir ». C’est pourquoi la traduction littérale ne convenait absolument pas …= to kick the bucket/ to pop off/ pass away/ to die/
=> présent simple = … when he dies…
- Compter sur quelqu’un = to count on someone/ to rely on someone/
- Roman à l’eau de rose = soppy novel/ sloppy novel/ a romance story/
- Je préfère ne pas y penser.= I’d rather not think about …= I'd rather + infinitif sans to ; (I'd rather = I would rather)

Maxwell!
Suddenly, the kids started singing. I cleared my voice and sang with them. We were all singing wholeheartedly.
- Les enfants = sont déterminés => «the kids».
- Se mirent à = started + V + ing/ the children = pluriel de "the child".
- S’éclaircir la voix = to clear one’s throat.
»= to amuse oneself/ to have a lot of fun/ singing to our hearts’ content. / singing wholeheartedly/ We all had a field day.
