Oral/Places and forms of power
Message de corentin28 posté le 14-05-2015 à 11:03:32 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
pouvez vous corriger ma synthèse s'il vous plait ?
Merci d'avance.

Places and forms of power

I am going to talk about the notion of places and forms of power. First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion: the power is the ability to control people, it's a force exerted or capable of being exerted. It can be exerted by justice, government, media, new technology … “Places” could be important buildings or institutions which represent a certain form of power or a symbol of power. As we have seen, there are several forms of power like technology’s power, media power, and politic power. In class, we studied several documents about this notion, and I am going to talk about new technology power and media power. So how do the media, through new technologies, have power over us? To attempt to answer at this question, I will help myself of three documents studied in class: “The fourth power Today”, “The ideal suspect” and “The fifth power”. At first, we will see the birth of new technologies, then we will see the growing power of the media thanks to new technology. To conclude we will see media influence on us.
We have studied in class, the birth of Apple. His creator, Steve Jobs, was a visionary because he saw the power of technology to change the way we live. Indeed, the power of technology can change the world. We have seen that with Google, and more precisely, “Google street view”. This Google application allows us to see the world on the net thanks to technology. Google cars, equipped with cameras and technology tools, through the world and take pictures of each place then we can see these places on the net. Creating smartphone with camera is a source of power, as had seen Steve Jobs. Indeed, we can share photos, information through the world and it’s a form of power.
Thanks to new technology, we have studied the emergence of the digital press. Indeed, we have seen the passage of newspapers to digital press. New technology allows us to read newspaper on our smartphone, watch, computer,.. Moreover, many of these newspaper are free and many people can read them on metro,… It’s more convenient for us, and so many more people read news. TV news are also viewed. Thereby media are more present in our daily lives and they affect us much, as we shall see in the next section.
In class, we studied “The ideal suspect”. In this document, we could see media influence. Indeed, as in this text, media have big influence on us particularly with new technology. Media can control us, and control our review of news. Indeed, in “The ideal suspect”, media controlled people on murder case, and accused an innocent men. With this example, we can see the power of media. They give news as they want and these news are not necessarily true. Media have many power over us, and they control our lives.
Through new technology, more precisely digital press and free press, media disseminate information and affect our mind. Thereby, they control our lives and exerted a power over us. So we have to be careful with media, and we must not be influenced by them.
