Ex 194/good riddance 2020- Happy 2021
Message de here4u posté le 29-12-2020 à 22:55:04 (S | E | F)
Hello Dear, dear Friends,

I) Translate into English:

» (pas « moment of truth » si possible !)

II) OPTIONAL –

"Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain." (Seneca)

If you fancy it, you may try to be generous to 2020 and write about ONE positive event, or attitude that has given you hope during that « rotten year ». (100- 130 words).

I know you'll need THE FORCE... May it be with YOU, always... Best wishes to all of You. 🎆 🥳 🎉 Take great care of everyone around you.

It was an amazing test §

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain." (Seneca)

If you fancy it, you may try to be generous to 2020 and write about ONE positive event, or attitude that has given you hope during that « rotten year ».

This sentence by Seneca is beautiful, and appeals to wisdom in order to wait patiently for all hardships to pass … However, I cannot adapt this patient behaviour, and tolerance towards 2020, because, it is guilty whith no mitigating circumstances. I cannot forgive that 2020 for having made a warm welcome to a lethal virus named the covid, which clings to people, strenghtening everyday to kill , plunging into mourning more than 1 855 872 human beings all over the world...

I have not felt the slightest hope : 2020’s virus may not grant respite to planetary suffering, so well as I am feeling a heavy resentful towwards it, which has also deprived us from freedom

however a big bravo and hats off to those who worked hard to find a vaccine that will give us in 2021
a HOPE to survive through our dreams 125

“Annus horribilis” that what 2020 has been and it is very hard to find something positive to say about it. But let’s try : during the first lockdown don’t you remember that the weather was glorious ? One of the most beautiful spring in years … and as you were stuck at home you could read a good novel while sunbathing or go for nice walks during the only hour you were allowed to go out or … but even if I rack my brains I can’t find anything positive in that rotten year and I can’t be generous to 2020 and I can't either find more words to express my breakdown !  …

THANK U dear Here4u - 'See' you soon

He didn’t send anyone to say it, sir! That yokel of Lampion gets nothing for his troubles.

Ooh there ! tomorrow is my exam….it should go all right, but it’s a crucial test and I really have the gitters
Dissuade people from doing what they have planned to do is what I’m good at!

Indeed, the only event worth defining positive in 2020 is the number of anti-Covid-19 vaccines which have been successfully experimented. Several of which are being distributed in millions of doses throughout the world.
Each type of vaccine has different characteristics, various efficacy ratio percentages, diverse ways of application and temperatures of preservation. which compel to follow several protocols of inoculation.
But the problem of the vaccination of billions of people is far from being solved because the vaccines production is not yet sufficient to deal with the apparently unstoppable growth of the pandemic around the world.
This gap could be effectively bridged if people would have had a more responsible behaviour, thus allowing to overcome the pandemic. 118

Thanking you for the nice exercise I hope you have a pleasant weekend.
Stay safe and take care.
So long.

If you fancy it, you may try to be generous to 2020 and write about ONE positive event, or attitude that has given you hope during that « rotten year ». (100- 130 words).

If we all suffered confinement in the spring of 2020, Mother Nature was finally able to regain her rights, the animals experienced a respite, re-opened the peaceful vacant territories..., no daily pressures, no pollution, this is incredibly positive!❤️
Of course, we, humans had been trapped for two months. Our economy had stopped overnight. It had been much more complicated for many people, but who could have imagined that we would be stopped by the infinitely small? Why not create another trading system, fairer, less stupid, review our real priorities, manufacture locally according to our needs, since nobody had masks, the government had lied to us, ... and take back our national economy instead of entrusting everything to one area of the planet, so far away? ... Nothing has changed... Disappointed! 130 words. 😥

... Rien n’a changé... Déçue !😥

I know you'll need THE FORCE... May it be with YOU, always...❤️💪☀️
Best wishes to all of You. Live in peace and be healthy, wherever you live on this so beautiful Planet! May humanity be more responsible and more human than they are!
Take great care of you and of everyone around you.❤️
See you soon.

During this rotten year, I could see some positive actions. At last, we realized that, if we had no other choice, we could live in a different way and focused on what’s really important in life that is to say the people we love, care for our health, get our food close to our home, don’t take our car to go to the next block because walking is a blessing, enjoy listening to the birdsongs. To be deprieved of freedom shows us that happiness is not in having the most recent mobile phone or the fastest car. We can find happiness in simple things. Let’s enjoy life before it’s too late.

See you !😇

Hello, Dear Friends,

Translate into English:

Far (be it) from me the idea of overworking you at any cost, but in your spare time, you’d be well advised to take a look at the latest novel by the greatest writer of all time.

- Loin de moi l’idée de = (style "ampoulé", un peu étrange dans une conversation ... pour dire "je ne pense pas que") : far be it from me to…(très formel)/ far from me to/ I’m not suggesting that/ I wouldn’t dream of/a
- Vouloir à tout prix : to be hell-bent on doing stg/ at all costs/ at any cost/ regardless of the cost/ at any price/ bent on/ desperate/ whatever it takes
- Surcharger de travail : overwhelmed with work/ submerged in work/ overworked/ overloaded with work/ swamped with work/
- à vos heures perdues : while killing time/ in my spare time/ when I have nothing better to do/
- Etre inspiré de : it would be a good idea to/ you would be well advised to/
- jeter un coup d’œil à : cast a glance/ glance/ glance over/ have a gander/ have a look/ keek/ peep in/ peer out/ run your eye over/ steal a glance at/ take a look/ take a peek/ take a peep at/

» Maxwell!

«Oh dear, he did speak to him snappily!» «He did, didn’t he! You, Sir, didn’t send him to. Lampion, that beast, got little for his efforts!

- A l’emporte-pièce= (adjectif) = snap/ sweeping/ sweeping/ judgmental/// (nom) a cookie-cutter/ pastry-cutter/ (adverbe): snappily/
=> «he did!», (= confirmation) «didn’t he!»
- " Envoyer dire à quelqu’un " : to send to sb
- " cet animal de Lampion " : Lampion, that beast,/ That beast (of) Lampion/
- en être pour ses frais : to get little for his pains/ get little for his efforts/ found himself short changed/ got nothing for all his trouble/

No matter how difficult things might be today, we still have a hope to make them better tomorrow…

However+ adjectif// No matter how + adjectif.
- Revoir la différence entre «still»/ «again»/ «yet» : Still, again, always-anglais (anglaisfacile.com)
- Améliorer : to make better / to improve/

The managers saw some potential in me that I had never imagined in myself…

» (pas « moment of truth » si possible !)
Oh Dear… I’m taking my exam tomorrow… It should be alright, but that’s really where the rubber meets the road and I have the jitters...

- le moment de vérité : the moment of truth/
« What does 'Where the rubber meets the road' mean? Where the rubber meets the road is the most important point for something, the moment of truth. An athlete can train all day, but the race is where the rubber meets the road and they'll know how good they really are.»
- Avoir le trac : to have/ suffer from/to have butterflies (in my stomach)/to stage fright/ to have the jitters/

«Talking people out of what they had planned to do, is what I’m good at…»

- Dissuader : dissuade/ deter/ discourage/ psych out/ talk out of/ warn off
- Etre bon à/ en = to be good at.
