Ex 201/Not better at all
Message de here4u posté le 14-04-2021 à 23:34:56 (S | E | F)
Hello, Dear Lovers of translations...

I) Translate into French:
Gilbert is still talking to his sister Rose about Mrs Graham and the gossip about her...

«Then you are going to see her this evening?»
«To be sure I am!»
«But what would mamma say, Gilbert?»
«Mamma needn’t know.»
«But she must know sometime, if you go on.»
«Go on! – There’s no going on in the matter – Mrs Graham and I are two friends – and will be; and no man breathing shall hinder it, - or has a right to interfere between us.»
«But if you knew how they talk; you would be more careful – for her sake as well as for y our own. Jane Wilson thinks your visits to the old hall but another proof of her depravity –"
«Confound Jane Wilson!»
«And Eliza Millward is quite grieved about you.»
«I hope she is.»
«But I wouldn’t be if I were you.»
«Wouldn’t what? – How do they know that I go there?»
«There’s nothing hidden from them: they spy out everything.»

Anne Brontë, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

II) (OPTIONAL) Expression:
"Unlike the small town, where everybody knows your business and community ties are pervasive, the city dweller is an anonymous man in the crowd everywhere..." Do you agree? (130 words)

- Maudite soit Jane Wilson !

Merci pour cet entraînement !

Hello my dear Here4u! Thanks ! mercredi 28 avril 2021
Hi everybody!

FINISHED !

Here is my work:

«Then you are going to see her this evening?»
«To be sure I am!»
«But what would mamma say, Gilbert?»

«I hope she is.»

«Wouldn’t what? – How do they know that I go there?»
«There’s nothing hidden from them: they spy out everything.»

« Maudite soit Jane Wilson! »

Anne Brontë, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

II) (OPTIONAL) Expression:
"Unlike the small town, where everybody knows your business and community ties are pervasive, the city dweller is an anonymous man in the crowd everywhere..." Do you agree? (130 words)

No, I disagree: your neighbours know everything about you: people are bored and the only thing they can do is spy on their neighbours, imagine their actions they don't do. This exists in all cities, whether they are small or big, those who have vicious tongues are gossiping by distorting facts and relationships. Certainly, in a small community, one becomes known to everyone, even if you don't stick your nose in where it isn't wanted ... In a big city, only the residence, the street, the neighbourhood recognizes us with time... We will always have criticism, whatever are our actions or our relations, it is better to ignore them, as long as we have nothing to complain about. The malicious gossips will be unmasked. I don't care ! 130 words.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH ALL OF YOU! Take care of yourselves and of the people around you... 💪☀️❤️
See you soon.

"Maudit soit Jane Wilson !"

OPTION
It's certain that in big cities gossip , when it exists,is limited to the space of the stairwell
Most of the time we never meet our neighbours, "hello, good evening" in front of the mailbox, that's all.
In suburban areas, neighbours talk to each other more;if gossip goes from one garden to another,it stops at the end of the street. In some small villages everything is known, but people are working and they don't linger. They may be 1 or 2 people who are bored and spread the lastest compromising news. They must be nailed with sharp words.More dangerous are the social networks that distribute gossip through the all world in less time than it takes to say it.(125)

II) (OPTIONAL) Expression:
"Unlike the small town, where everybody knows your business and community ties are pervasive, the city dweller is an anonymous man in the crowd everywhere..." Do you agree? (130 words)

In a very small town, you can't be anonymous. It's like in a large family: most people want to know their neighbours, trust them, help them, count on them when necessary and when they meet someone in the village, they talk about what they've learnt recently about other villagers. Even if they've just seen insignificant things, they imagine things, build stories, misrepresent reality and let the rumour spread: everyone in the village can be informed rapidly.
In a city, spyers exist and spread news to their relations as well. But not anyone is known by others: a city is too populated. And may I add, activities, entertainments are probably more important in a city: people have so many other things to talk about or think about... (130)

Dear Here4U
It spent a long time to rework this text: deleting, adding and and not to exceed 130 words 130 words, whereas this subject would require an essay.
Thank you for your correction

In a small village: the relations are affective with identifiable fellow-citizens. The population rubs shoulders in the establishments of necessity. They exchange information that will be of different levels according to: their cultural level, their work, their health and their age.
This information will sometimes be transformed, peddled and sometimes become destructive rumors. But it is also in the villages that we find mutual aid, empathy and personal acts.
In the city, the rise of individualism weakens the social link. Each individual becomes, not only autonomous, but is no longer aware of the group. A mutual distancing is created with feelings of indifference, which can make one think of a need to protect oneself and the personal well-being comes before that of others. When it comes to mutual aid, associations often provide it. And loneliness is synonymous with drama 139

Until recently, living in a small town left us our own business exposed to be more or less well known by many of our fellow townsman, while being an anonymous individual embedded amid thousands of city dwellers, makes us feel our privacy protected.
But the constant increase in the movement of people moving from one region to another, from one nation to another it is slowly melting this existential feature, transforming it in a new system of daily life. Even the stereotype of "anonymous individual" is destined to vanish because of the pre-dominant interests of the global development, which require a strict control over the society. It seems to me that the struggle to achieve such a goal has already been started. 122

I hope you are doing well and, thanking you for the nice exercise,
I wish you a great week.

So long.

Dans vos corrections individuelles j'ai scrupuleusement noté "are emphatique ?" ...

encore !
