Bonjour dear all et bienvenue à ceux qui nous rejoindraient.

Aujourd'hui, c'est l'automne, mais ne nous laissons pas chagriner : il fait tellement soleil, encore..

What about making things clearer in order to "perfectly" understand one another ? D'une langue à l'autre, aussi.

A ) Bien indiquer à quelle terminologie anglaise correspond chaque signe et mot suivant (comme si vous dictiez à quelqu'un ,en annonçant (une fois le texte venu) tout ce qu'il doit poser sur la feuille ):

2 )- : tiret (traduction)
3 )....... : points de suspension = ( traduction).
4) ! : point d'exclamation . = (trad.)

B ) De rétablir la mise en forme comme l'orthographe et d'intégrer les signes de ponctuation (sans les nommer, maintenant!) qui vous semblent corrects et judicieux. (d'abord sur votre " brouillon" français : vous ne posterez que le texte anglais " bien tourné " ).

Vous avez posté votre A , fait votre B...? Très bien...let's go, shall we ?

c'est alors qu'à la fenêtre ouverte soudain apparut une lumière jusque là la belle Eleonore était assise seule toute plongée dans son unique rêve deux années s'étaient écoulées depuis sa rencontre avec Sir Henry elle se souvenait encore parfaitement du sombre soir où son père l'avait mis dehors longtemps assis ensemble dans le parc Henry s'était alors écrié ma mie est-ce la première fois que votre coeur est pris oui avait-elle répondu mais c'est tellement divin que ce ne sera je l'espère pas la dernière soudain elle entendit un bruit à nul autre pareil c'était LUI en deux enjambées il fut près d'elle l'enlaça la baisa attention et la caressa Henry s'enquit-elle mais qu'est donc l'amour eh bien je l'ignore en tout cas je ne saurais vivre sans avait -il répliqué mon tendre poursuivit-elle où donc vos pensées sont-elles allées pendant tout ce temps vers TOI ma damoiselle sic et brusquement il s'était évaporé tout ce qu'elle entendit fut le bruit reconnaissable en mille de son cheval en partance .

Pas moyen ! (d'y arriver avec vous..!)

Hello dear all ,

Vous aurez compris l'humour d'angliciste lucile..
Pas question, toutefois, de nommer dans votre thème les marques de ponctuation (vous l'avez fait pour le A ): mettre leurs signes respectifs, c'est tout. J'ai procédé à deux ajouts "oubliés". La liste n'était certes pas exhaustive...seuls mes "demandes" sont nécessaires à l'exercice de traduction C.

- J'avais dès hier soir apporté quelques précisions à mes consignes, voyant que mon sujet pouvait partir de travers.

.. aux anglophones (et anglo-américanophones) : vous serez les bienvenus en postant votre B (up to you,actually). Thank you dear four or five for posting your English translation some time later, after the Frenchies.

Nous reverrons cette fois la priorité de la bataille de Fontenoy.(1745 : "Messieurs les Anglais, tirez les premiers ! " Voltaire rapporte.Chacun ,son tour !

Exercice bien utile pour se remémorer les signes de ponctuation mais aussi un bon exercice de français . Quelle bonne idée!

After a long time ,sitting together in the park, Henry had cried out:
-"My love, is this the first time your heart is moved? "
-"Yes", she replied,"but it's so godlike that I wish it won't be the last time."

All of a sudden, she heard a noise like no other: here He was!!
In two strides, he was beside her,gave her a hug,kissed and fondled her.
-"Henry", she asked, "so what is love?"
-"Well, I don't know; but, anyway,I couldn't live without it",he replied.
-"My beloved",she pursued,"where were your thoughts gone away during all that time?"

...And, suddenly,he vanished !!

Soudain elle entendit un bruit à nul autre pareil.

C'était LUI ! en deux enjambées il fut près d'elle, l'enlaça,la baisa et la caressa. It was HE (HIM)! In a couple of strides, he reached her (drew near her), embraced her,kissed and caressed her (fondled her en manipulation moderne !)

"Henry", s'enquit-elle, "mais qu'est donc l'amour"?
"Henry", she asked " What is love then?"

"Eh bien je l'ignore! En tout cas je ne saurais vivre sans" avait -il répliqué.
Well, I don't know but in any case, I couldn't live without it" He had replied.

"Mon tendre" poursuivit-elle " Où donc vos pensées sont-elles allées pendant tout ce temps?"
"My sweet love (My beloved)" She went on, "Who have you been longing for (pining for) all this time ?"

"Vers TOI ma damoiselle" et brusquement il s'était évaporé.
"You, my Lady" and suddenly, he had vanished (into thin air).

Tout ce qu'elle entendit fut le bruit reconnaissable entre mille de son cheval en partance .
All she heard was the unmistakable noise (clatter) of her departing horse.

--- des points de suspension : suspension dots (no asterisks like in US), dot-dot-dot(colloquial) ... ellipsis (US).
--- un point d'exclamation : an exclamation mark/point ( a vertical dash with a period underneath!) .
--- des guillemets : quotation, quotation marks , inverted commas ( it can "vary" according you are left-handed or right-handed , you'll see).<<...>> .

J'adore aussi sa virtuosité dans le show avec Marilyn Mulvey associé à son humour inégalable. Je n'ai pas participé à la traduction, faute de temps, mais j'ai suivi et attendu avec impatience de voir le dénouement.

15 ) The unhappy ( = gloomy) evening : le malheureux soir (sombre, triste, fatal..) # the dark evening : l'hiver , tous les soirs sont noirs même si les chats sont gris! Et l'été, au bord du Loch ness à 22h, il fait "blanc"!

16 )The evening when:circonstanciel de temps.Pas de lieu.(where)

17 ) To throw,threw, thrown out :question de point de vue : pour le mettre dehors, il n'a pas pris de gants. Il le rejetait, donc il l'a jeté. To oust ! oust!
