Hello, dear Friends ! Hardworkers,
The Force is with you!

I) Translate into English:

hello everyone, hello HERE4U
This is my exercise 66 that you can correct when you want. in advance.

I) Translate into English:
A. At this moment, a delicate period begins for the next students ! Among an almost infinite choice, they have to decide about their future studies, and about their future job - knowing that each one will have at least three in his life ! - and all this must be decided in a socio economic context really difficult.

B. I know many of them who begin to dream of a breaking year, as it is often done in Anglo-Saxon countries. But, How can you decide to "lose" a year, when you dream of a social and financial autonomy ? and in spite of the figures of unemployment, young wish to begin working life as soon as possible.

C. Not every student can afford this break in studies that are long and costly, especially in financial terms by the sacrifices they impose in the personal lives of these youth.

II) Bonus
1. Why not buy this pretty car ? Only because I am not able to afford to buy it.
2. Each time you go to see him, you bring him cakes. Have you forgotten he is following a diet ? Which terrible temptation for him ?
3. You shouldn't have answered like that, it was nasty and tactless. (or rude)

III) Translate into French:
Though he was tired, he felt too excited to go to sleep at once. Not excited, really, but strange : strange to his surroundings, and strange to himself. In this sleek, comfortable, tidy room, suffused with a green underwater light, he floated free of time and space. Home seemed infinitely remote, and the self that belonged there, just as distant.

Now a delicate period is beginning for future students. They are to choose, among an almost endless range, what further education/studies to begin, in order to opt for the future jobs they would like to take up, (each of them is expected to have the chance of three jobs, at least, during their active life). All that have to be chosen in a very unfavourable socio-economic background.

I know many people who are dreaming to take one year of sabbatical leave, as is being often done in the Anglo-Saxon countries.
But what sense would be that of deciding "to waste a year", when one is dreaming to reach his own financial and social independence and in spite of unemployment ratio, young people are eager to get into the working world as soon as possible?
But the decision of "going to waste a year" would be counterproductive, when one is dreaming to reach his own financial and social independence and, in spite of unemployment ratio, young people are eager to get into the working world as soon as possible..

Not every student can afford such a time off in their studies, which are long and costly, in financial terms and above all for the sacrifices they imposed on the personal lives of those young people.

"Why not buy this beautiful car." "Just because I haven't got the money…

Whenever you come to pay a visit to him, you bring cakes.
Don't forget he is on a diet! What a dreadful temptation for him to stand !
You shouldn't have answered him that way. It has been nasty and rude.

III) Translate into French:
Though he was tired, he felt too excited to go to sleep at once. Not excited, really, but strange : strange to his surroundings, and strange to himself. In this sleek, comfortable, tidy room, suffused with a green underwater light, he floated free of time and space. Home seemed infinitely remote, and the self that belonged there just as distant.
David LODGE Out of the Shelter.

Thank you very much for the nice exercise.
I hope you have a great week.
Yours friendly

Hello !

Hello Here4u,

A –Currently, a tricky period begins for the future students ! Among an almost unlimited choice, they must decide on their future studies, their future occupations (each one of them will have at least three jobs in his life). All this must be chosen in a very unfavourable socioeconomic context

B – Many of them start dreaming of a gap year, as it often done in Anglo-Saxon countries. But how can you think of ‘losing a year’ when you dream of social and financial independence and when, in spite of the unemployment figures, the young want to start a working life as soon as possible

C – Not all the students can afford such a break in the course of their studies which are long and expensive in financial terms, particularly because of the sacrifices they lay down on the personal life of those young.

II – BONUS
1 - Why not buy this nice car? Just because I can’t pay for it…!
2 – Every time you come to visit him you bring some cakes. Have you forgotten he is on a diet ! What a terrible temptation for him !
3 – You should not have answered him like that. That was mean and rude

III - Translate into French
Though he was tired, he felt too excited to go to sleep at once. Not excited, really, but strange : strange to his surroundings, and strange to himself. In his sleek, comfortable, tidy room, suffused with a green underwater light, he floated free of time and space. Home seemed infinitely remote, and the self that belonged there just as distant.

Thank you once more dear Here4u I hope I'm not too late...

hello !

Hi here4u hi everybody.
Here's my try. Have a nice day.

1) -Translate into English :
- These days a sensitive era is getting started for the prospective students ! They must, amid a pretty endless choice make a decision about their potential studies and regarding their future jobs as well. (Everybody would have at least three in the life). All this must be selected within a very disadvantageous socio-economic context.

- I know a great number of them who get down on dreaming of a placement year, as is usually done in Anglo-Saxon countries. But how to resort to waste a year whereas one is dreaming of a social and financial independance and in spite of the unemployment figures, youngsters fancy getting into active living the sooner the better.

- All the pupils can't afford that break with the studies which are long and onerous, in financial terms and by the sacrifices they impose in the own lives of these youngs.

2) - Bonus :
- ''Why not buy this nice car. '' '' Quite simply because I can't afford to pay for.

- Every time you come to visit him you bring cakes. Did you forget he is on diet ? What an awful temptation for him !

- You shouldn't have answered him that way. It was nasty and coarse.

Hello, faithful workers and friends !

I know that some of you are "dying for this correction"... Here it is! (I'll transfer afarodj's tomorrow. I stupidly did it on his draft on Word... and still have a lot to do after posting this...)

I) Translate into English:

At the moment, a challenging period is starting for prospective students. Among infinite possibilities, pupils have to decide on their future studies, their future jobs (as each one of them will have to do at least three (jobs) in his life). All this must be chosen in a very difficult socio-economic background /context.

- futurs étudiants = future/prospective/students-to-be
- « profession/s »: OALD : "the professions [plural] the traditional jobs that need a high level of education and training, such as being a doctor or a lawyer"
(test N° :111772 Lien internet
)
- « economic »= adjectif s’appliquant à l’économie => « The economic policy » ; par opposition à « economical »= économe (qui fait des économies).

I know quite a lot of them who start dreaming of a gap year, as it’s often done in Anglo-Saxon countries. But how can you decide “ to waste a year” when you dream of social and financial independence and that, in spite of the figures of unemployment, young people feel like entering the work life as soon as possible.

- a gap year/a gapper/ a placement year/ a sabbatical year (normalement réservée aux personnes déjà entrées dans la vie active)/a year-off/
- perdre du temps : pas « lose, lost, lost) MAIS « to waste time. »
- independence = rien que des E.
- attention à la construction de « despite + nom », par opposition à « in spite of + nom ».
« les chiffres du chômage » sont déterminés par « of »=> « the figures of unemployment. »
- people feel like entering/would like to enter/ eager to enter/ : surtout pas de préposition après “enter” pour introduire le complément : to enter the room; to enter the work force.
- la vie active : “active life”, “work life”

Not every student can afford this pause in their studies which are long and expensive in financial terms as well as concerning the sacrifices imposed to these young people’s private lives...

: Lien internet

-« Je ne peux pas me permettre de « = je ne peux pas me payer. => »I can’t afford to pay for this expensive car.”
“coûteuses” = expensive/ costly
- These young people’s private lives.

Why not buy this wonderful/great car? Simply because I can’t afford to pay for it. (pay for something)

Every time you come and see him, you bring cakes to him. Have you forgotten that he’s on a diet? What a horrible temptation it is for him!

- to be on a diet= être au régime.
- adjectifs et pronoms exclamatifs = What! Such! (+ adjectif + nom) ; So + adjectif ; How + adjectif. Attention!

You shouldn’t have answered him back like that! It was both mean and rude.

III) Translate into French:

Though he was tired, he felt too excited to go to sleep at once. Not excited, really, but strange : strange to his surroundings, and strange to himself. In this sleek(3), comfortable, tidy room, suffused with a green underwater light, he floated free of time and space. Home seemed infinitely remote, and the self that belonged there just as distant.

(3) « sleek »: lisse, soyeux, brillant …

David LODGE Out of the Shelter.
