Understanding/ questions

Hi everyone
I have a question about this following text :

In this episode, Lucy is going to tell us about some old friends that she saw recently. Let's get started.
This has been a month for seeing old friends. I got an email a couple of weeks ago from an old friend from college. She and her family are visiting L.A. for a week(WHY Did she use present continu). They plan to see family and to visit old friends. Since she moved away, I hadn't seen her in ages (why does she use the past perfect?). I'm looking forward to meeting her new kids and seeing her again.(does that mean she doesn't see her yet, because she said 'this has been a month for seeing.....)

Another old friend called this week. She and I were buddies when we were young. She plans to swing by L.A. on her way to San Francisco. We've made plans to have lunch. She works in Washington D.C. and is normally very busy. I'm glad she could make time for us to get together.(if I understood she doesn't meet her yet?THAT's why she used the present perfect in "we have made plan....)
When we say good-bye to our friends, we always hope to keep in touch.
But, what with this and that, it's sometimes hard to do. With friends that I've fallen out of touch with(cela signifie perdre contact?), it's sometimes hard to meet again and pick up where we left off. We've both moved on to a different phase in our lives. Some of my old friends have become very successful, and are living lives in the fast lane. Other friends are having a more difficult time and are just making ends meet. But, no matter how they're doing, it's always nice to touch base again (touch base again c'est recontacter? like get in touch?)
I'm really looking forward to seeing these old pals and catching up after all this time. We just won’t mention how much we’ve aged.

je n'ai vraiment pas compris le choix de certains temps, j'ai l'impression qu'elle nous raconte les différentes rencontres, mais elle dit que cela s'est passé il y a un mois;
merci de m'éclairer si possible.
thank you all for your participation

Hello,
- She and her family are visiting L.A. for a week. >> c'est le présent v-ing exprimant le futur proche
- I'm looking forward to meeting her new kids and seeing her again. >> je suis impatiente les rencontrer; elle ne les a pas encore vus
- We've made plans to have lunch >> c'est le bilan d'un projet, ils ne se sont pas encore rencontrés
- I've fallen out of touch with >> perdre le contact; keep in touch = garder le contact/rester en contact
- touch base (again) >> recontacter // get in touch = contacter/ prendre contact

I hadn’t Seen her...
Thanks a lot

Hello
Since she moved away, I hadn't seen her for ages ...moved = prétérit, suivi du past perfect. (tout est dans le passé)
Since she has moved away, I haven't seen her for ages ...= present perfect pour les deux verbes.

hello thanks a lot for your reply,
so Im really sorry but I didn't undestand something, does the first sentence "this has been a month for seeing old friends" does that mean she saw them or she plans to see them soon?
merciiii thanks a lot
