Teen curfew
Message de henry3610 posté le 17-06-2007 à 15:32:56 (S | E | F | I)

Rebonjour !

In this picture, we can see a policeman and next to him there is a car with young people.
The policeman must be checking their identity and moreover, this picture was taken by night.

This text is an article by Mark Potok coming from USA Today and dating from 1994. It is entitled Teen Curfews.

It presents a new law voted at Dallas and also by other cities on the nationwide which keeps teenagers under 17 inside at home late at nigth after 11 on weeknights and midnight on weekends until 6 a.m.

This controversial city curfew imposed on teenagers is criticized by the teenagers themselves and the ACLU, the American Civil Liberties Union.
This law has been taken to fight against violent crime among teens ; but the ACLU argues that curfews reduce the freedom of a certain class of people by criminalizing them.
According to them, only parents should be responsible for their children.

ENCORE MERCI !
Henry

Hello again!

---> and moreover... --> rien d'incorrect, mais j'enlèverais "moreover"et dirais simplement: "and we can see...."
---> It presents a new law --> puisqu'il s'agit d'un journal, je trouve plus approprié de dire: "This is a report about......"
---> a new law voted at Dallas, and also by other cities on the nationwide, -->
-to "pass" a new law, donc, ......
-"on the" est superflu

---> which keeps teenagers under 17 inside at home late at nigth after 11 on weeknights and midnight on weekends until 6 a.m.

---> This law has been taken --> tu dois remplacer "taken" par le mot mentionné plus haut (verbe to pass)
---> ...crime among teens --> ici, mettre "teenagers"
---> ...by criminalizing them. --> après "by", j'ajouterais "potentially", entre parenthèses.

Bye... I'm late... I must go......
Hope it helps!
All the very best!!!!!!!! and Good luck!

Merci encore mp27 !

Voilà! Encore merci d'y avoir passé du temps mp27 !

Bonjour,

Toutefois, "?on the nationwide?" est à éliminer.

Good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hello henry!

Jean31 t'a suggéré --> "throughout the country" .

--> "must be checking" --> Oui, ...

--> ..... an article by Mark Potok coming from USA Today and dating from 1994.
Suggestion -->
This text is an article by Mark Potok, published in the newspaper “USA Today”, in 1994.

---> It "talks" about a new law.... -->Oui.
Je préfère: It "is a report" about a new law...

---> (law.....) to fight against violent crime.
-“to fight against” peut sembler un peu contradictoire dans le contexte.
-Suggestion: tu pourrais mettre --> “to counter violent crime” au lieu de “to fight against violent crime”.
