Tell me about your trip
Message de salimacis posté le 29-06-2007 à 22:52:02 (S | E | F | I)

Bonjour,

Last year, we went to Canada. We took the plane at Cairo airoport on May 2th 2006 at 07h am to Casablanca then we took another fly to Montreal. I went here with my university's students. The goal of our trip was a training. We stayed there for four months. My personnal training was in integrated water resources management.

Often, I met some specialists of water resources management. From time to time, I went for a walk in down-town, parks, gardens, etc and to visit the research centers, the musueums, etc.

I came back to Egypt on september 2th 2006. I liked Montreal's plan because it have not more buildings and skyscrapers like other developped countries' big towns. Then, the canadians gives more importance to their natural environment. They are simply and respectful with others.

Merci d'avance!

1. We took the plane at Cairo airoport on May 2th 2006 at 07h am to Casablanca then we took another fly to Montreal.
- ‘at’ – étant donné que vous avez mis ‘to Casablanca’ et le verbe ‘to take’ il faut que vouz mettiez ‘from Cairo’ – ‘from place X to place Y’.

2. I went here with my university's students. The goal of our trip was a training.
- ‘university students’

3. We stayed there for four months. My personnal training was in integrated water resources management.
- Regardez l’orthgraphe de ‘personnal’

4. Often, I met some specialists of water resources management.
Peut-être ‘On many occasions I met…’
- on est ‘a specialist IN something’.
- Je suggère ‘I frequently met with water resource management specialists’

5. From time to time, I went for a walk in down-town, parks, gardens, etc and to visit the research centers, the musueums, etc.
- ‘musueums’ – faute d’orthographe

6. I came back to Egypt on september 2th 2006.
- majuscule pour les noms des mois
- 2nd encore une fois

7. I liked Montreal's plan because it have not more buildings and skyscrapers like other developped countries' big towns.
- ‘plan’ – normalement un faux ami. Ici, ‘layout’ est le mot exact.
- ‘it have not’ !!!!!!
- ‘developped’ – orthographe plutôt français
- ‘not more’ ? Vous voulez dire ‘no more’ (ne … plus) ou ‘fewer’ (moins) ?

8. Then, the canadians gives more importance to their natural environment. They are simply and respectful with others.
- ‘then’ n’est pas juste. ‘In this way’ (‘ainsi’) ?
- majuscule pour Canadians.
- regardez votre conjugaison de ‘gives’
- ‘give more importance to’ n’a pas l’air anglais. ‘greater importance to’ serait meilleur.
- ‘simply’ est un adverbe
- ‘respectful TO others’

J'espère de vous avoir aidé,
marlond

Hello salimacis!
Tout d'abord -> Comme on sait qu'il s'agit de “last year”, répéter 2006 me semble superflu.
1)

---> May 2th –> pourquoi ce “th”?
---> 07h am -> ou bien, 7am, ou bien, 07:00. Ne pas mélanger les 2 systèmes
---> airoport –> vérifie orthographe avec ton dictionnaire!
---> fly --> c'est le verbe “to fly”. Attention, ici, il s'agit du nom: “vol”. Consulte ton dictionnaire.
---> personnal –>pas 2 n
---> september the 2th –> même remarque que plus haut pour 2th, et, S majuscule.
---> musueums –> vérifie orthographe avec ton dictionnaire!
---> developped --> seulement 1 “p”
---> the canadians --> majuscule!

2)

---> tu prends l'avion --> “from” Cairo....( pas “at")
---> I went here --> texte au passé, donc -> Change “here” en -> "..."
---> the goal... was a --> ici, pas de “a” devant “training”, à moins que tu parles de "a training course".
---> place de “often" -> pas en tête de phrase, mais entre “I “ et “met”
---> specialists of --> pas “of”, mais specialists “in”
---> I went for a walk --> Suggestion -> "I went for walks" / "I walked"
---> a walk in down-town --> pas besoin de “in”, mais place ton “in” devant “parks”
(in) parks, gardens et remplace la virgule par “and”
---> pas: Montreal's plan --> suggestion: the layout of Montreal

3)
Points de grammaire et construction de phrases:

---> with my university's students
-si tu es le professeur --> with my university students
-si tu es étudiant --> with students from my university.

- “From time to time....... (in ) parks (and) gardens”.
- Pour la seconde phrase: “and to visit the” ....... --> enlève "and”. Tu pourrais commencer la phrase par: "I also went to visit".....

---> because it have...... big towns.
- it have --> pas “have”!!! Attention! (sujet "it")
- not more.... like --> Change la structure en -> LESS (buildings and skyscrapers) THAN .......
- (than) other developped countries' big towns.
Suggestion -> "than you would find in" .......
Vu le contexte, "developed" me semble superflu -> ....."other countries' big towns".

---> l'avant-dernière phrase
- the Canadians gives --> pas “giveS” !!! Attention!!! (regarde le sujet)
- Suggestion: au lieu de Then .... -> je dirais: "I also noticed" the Canadians give...... mais il y aurait bien d'autres possibilités...

---> la dernière phrase
- [simply and respectful] -> tu ne peux pas avoir “and” entre un adverbe et un adjectif, donc, -> “The Canadians are simply respectul”......
- au lieu de "with others”, suggestion: -> “towards other people.”

---> because it have...... big towns.
- it have --> pas “have”!!! Attention! (sujet "it")
- not more.... like --> Change la structure en -> LESS (buildings and skyscrapers) THAN .......

A small thing to note is that it should be 'fewer' and not 'less' here. This is a thing that many/most English people get wrong and so nothing really to concern yourself with overly, but it's nice to get it right:
"...it has fewer tall buildings and skyscrapers than..."
