Hello!
I came across this sentence while I was preparing a lesson about comparatives for my intermediate students. The sentence says:
4. John is a ______________________________(good) gardener than Stuart.
I wonder whether the answer would be something like:
*John is a better gardener than Stuart.
Do you think that this answer makes sense?
For me, I guess the correct structure of this sentence might be:
John, the gardener, is better thatn Stuart.
I'm looking forward to receiving a convincing answer.
Ashrough

Perhaps you can try this kind of sentence:
In gardening, Jhon is better than Stuart.

"John is a better gardener than Stuart" is perfectly correct.
