Correction /Tsunami
Message de mel2401 posté le 31-05-2012 à 00:43:02 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,

Good evening, more than eleven thousand people have been killed in south Asia. After an under sea earthquake, an enormous wave rolling across the Indian ocean. The quake measure 9 on the Richter scale. The biggest in the world for forty years. Waves up to 10 meters high and goal the coast of many countries.

The quake’s epicenter was on the island of Sumatra in the north west of Indonesia. Were more than four thousand people of thought of died. In Sri Lanka, officials say more three thousand people have been killed and more than a million, affected.
In Southern India, three thousand people mostly fishermen are reported dead. And witnesses have reported scores of bodies being washed up on beaches.
At least, three hundred have been killed in Southern Thailand including some tourists and hundreds missing.

Jenny Gray reports :

This was Sri Lanka as the sea water flooded in land where thousand people have lost their life. The government official says more than a million people, around 5% of the Islands population have been affected. The flood water came in land for several hundreds meters. Some victims were washed away and friends and relatives screamed. Sri Lanka's natural disaster management center says it may be the worst disaster they have experienced.
Across 6 countries in Southern Asia, the death tough is now rising as the terrible picture of damage emerges.

Our reporter is on the scene. Jenny, can you hear me ?

Yes, I hear you loud and clear.

Yesterday, around eight o'clock in the morning, the earthquake occurred making thousands of deads and more than 1 million people have been made homeless. It's all a panic here. Survivors are all trying to find their relatives and as you can see there are just debris. The boat behind me has even been moved until 6 kilometers from the coast.
Secourists attempt to save people who are still trapped under rubble. Everybody hopes that the situation will be better for all the inhabitants of South Asia who have been affected.

Thank you for all these news. On our web site many web users have asked some questions.
Here's one that appears on the screen : How are tsunamis created ?

Tsunamis are   generated when a large amount of water is displaced very quickly. These phenomena include earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and landslides. However, the most common cause is an undersea earthquake.
After a large mass of water has been displaced, due to gravity, waves form as the mass moves to regain its balance. This means it contains an enormous amount of energy, allowing it to travel great distances at high speeds.
When the wave is near the shore, the water piles up on itself and becomes a huge wave and crashes onto the land.

Jenny, in Colombo, thank you.
For more informations you can call the phone number on the screen
