Had = did + have
Message from msudan posted on 22-02-2010 at 10:38:57

Hello sir,

She had flowers. ( using "did" make setence & question )

Ans : 1) She did have flowers.
2) Did she have flowers.

My son was given the above exercise by his teacher. He wrote the answers as indicated above. But as per the teacher, instead of have, it would come "has" since the subject is singular ie. "she".

I would be grateful, if you please let me know the correct ones with some examples.

regards,
msudan

"she did has/did she has" is a mistake. That does not exist.

Hello,
The instructions aren't very clear! I guess what your son has to do is turn a positive sentence into a negative and a question, using the auxiliary "did".
If you don't remember the patterns :
Negative = Subject + Auxiliary + Negative word + Verb
Question = Auxiliary + Subject + Verb...?(don't forget the question mark!)
Try it and we'll see.
Bye!

hello
do here is axillary
does+subject+verb in infinitive without to ?
so we say:
does she have flowers.
in affirmative sentences we don't use the auxiliary do.
so we say:
she has flowers.
the sentence is in the present so we use does not did
