Lose is a verb: lose / loses / losing / lost
It can mean:
-not find: 'I've lost my keys. Have you seen them?'
-have something/somebody taken away: 'I can tell I'm getting older because I'm starting to lose my hair!'
-have less: 'When I got sick, I lost interest in eating.'
-not win: 'It's too bad they lost the game.'
-not keep: 'That French expression loses something in translation.'
-waste time/opportunity: 'Hurry up! There's no time to lose!'
-death: 'She's sad because she lost her mother recently.'
-be confused: 'I'm sorry, you've lost me. Who is George again?'
Phrases with lose:
lose consciousness = to become unconscious
lose face = to no longer impress people or be respected by them
lose ground = to become less popular or to be given less support
lose out = to not have an advantage that other people have
lose touch = to stop communicating with someone, usually because they do not live near you now
lose heart = to stop believing that you can succeed
lose it = to stop being able to control your emotions and suddenly start to shout, cry or laugh
lose your touch = If you lose your touch, you can no longer do something as well as you could before
lose sleep over/about something = to worry about something
lose your way = to no longer know what your aim or purpose is or what to do next
lose your temper = to suddenly become very angry
lose your bearings = If you lose your bearings, you do not know where you are
lose count = to not be able to remember how many times something has happened
