Simple past or present perfect
🔹 You use the simple past in order to express when the action was done.
Example:
I broke my leg five years ago. (And now, five years later, my leg is no longer broken. )
🔹 You use the present perfect in order to express that the action has been done and that it still has some influence on the present.
Example:
I have broken my leg (And now I can't play football).
🔹 In addition, you use the present perfect when an action started in the past and continues up to know.
Example:
I have lived in Munich since my birth.
🔹 Signal words for the present perfect are: ever, before, never, already, yet, always, .....
