la forme frequentative
Message de maya13 posté le 10-02-2007 à 17:40:25 (S | E | F | I)

Bonjour à tous :
L'auxiliaire "used to" sert à marquer le caractère révolu d'une action ou la répétition d'une action dans passé).
ex :He used to smoke cigars (maintenant il n'en fume plus)
ex : He would always make the same mistakes
ex : I get up at seven : je me lève (tous les jours) à 7 heures

Hello maya13!
1 - This is where I used to live as a child / when I was a child.
2 - They go to the cinema every Saturday
3 - She would say men are cowards.
She was always saying men are cowards / She kept saying....
4 - He doesn't get angry as often as he used to.
5 - He doesn't speak English as fluently as he used to.
6 - In its day, the Empire State Building was the highest skyscraper in the world. / In those days.
7 - Every year, we would listen to the Queen's speech. (question de routine & habitude, mais "used to" si maintenant on ne l'écoute jamais plus)
8 - We buy the Observer every Sunday.
9 - He keeps forgetting to sign his cheques! / He always forgets ...
10 - The phone always rings when I am having a bath.

L'auxiliaire "to be used to" n'existe que sous cette forme du passé.
ex : You used to be his friend ?
ex : Grannie would tell us stories before we went to bed
ex : When the cat is away, the mice will play

1 - This is where I used to live when I was a child
2 - They go to the cinema every Saturday
3 - She would say that all men are cowards (keeps saying)
4 - He doesn't lose his temper as often as he used to (do)
5 - He doesn't speak English as fluently as he used to
6 - The Empire State Building used to be the highest skyscraper in the world
7 - Every year we would (used to)listen to the Queen's Christmas message
8 - Every Sunday we buy the Observer
9 - He keeps forgetting (he will forget) to sign his cheques
10 - The phone always rings (keeps ringing) when I 'm having my bath

Thank you all - See you
