Do you like mythology (Greece, Egypt, Roma ...) ?

Réponse: re de chrisg, postée le 2004-05-25 20:29:08 (S | E)
A lot : not the romanian one, but Celtic, egyptian, and of course greec !

Réponse: re de choubidouou, postée le 2004-05-25 20:29:33 (S | E)
I remember that i really really liked Greec mythology when i was younger, but now i have fogotten almost everything and i think that's a shame, because we can find many many allusions to the Greek mythology in numbers of texts and books...

I don't know at all Celtic mythology ! I like Egyptian and Greec mythology.
Last year I went to Greece, and I visited different places. I took part at a French TV emission : "Des Racines et des Ailes" (in the public, of course !) which was recorded in Cap Sounion.

Réponse: Miss Fussy de mariet, postée le 2004-05-25 21:31:15 (S | E)
Allow me, ladies,
rosminet > Roma is the Italian word, in English RomE

chrisg > not the Roman (unless you meant roumaine ?) one, but Celtic, Egyptian, and of course GreeK ! nationality adj -> capital initial, dear!!!

choubidouou > I remember that I really really liked Greek mythology when I was younger, but now I have foRgotten almost everything and I think that's a shame, because we can find many many allusions to the Greek mythology in numbers of texts and books...

rosminet > 2) I don't know Celtic mythology at all ! I like Egyptian and Greek mythology.
Last year I went to Greece, and I visited different places. I took part IN a French TV PROGRAM : "Des Racines et des Ailes" (AMONG(ST)/AMID(ST) the AUDIENCE, of course !) which was recorded in Cap Sounion

Sorry to bother you but you know how sadistic and annoying I am!!!

As for me, I had to deal with Roman antiquity (and therefore Roman mythology) when I used to take part in an educational trip to Rome with my pupils. I liked it but I think I will NEVER be able to tell all these gods and goddesses one from the other...

Dear Miss Fussy,

I am here in order to help people and ... also to improve my English skills.

So thank you !

I enjoy watching "des racines et des ailes" ("roots & wings" ??? ) ) but 've never seen this emission on the Greek mythology. What was it about ?

Réponse: re de rosminet, postée le 2004-05-26 16:42:12 (S | E)
There were different topics.

* Cap Sounion and the story of King "Egée".
* the restoration of the "Parthénon".
* the discover of Milos' Venus.
* the Isle of Delos.
* Ulysse and Homère.

I think that was all !

It's a pre-recorded live broadcasting TV program !

Hi,

I really love mythologies especially Greek mythology. In fact it is not just a little passion because the topic of my PhD is "Mythology and conception of hells in ancient Greece".

Réponse: re de rosminet, postée le 2004-05-26 21:30:07 (S | E)
Very impressive darkgally !

I went to Greece because I was working on a project with the French School of Athens. I think you must know them, don't you ?

Réponse: re de chrisg, postée le 2004-05-26 22:31:19 (S | E)
dargally, you can wrote more 500 pages on that subject !!!! How interesting it must be !!! I have something about 10 books on greek mythology, and especially one that explains the underlying history and understood of mythes and gods. So ... you have to visit the "Champs Elysees" ...

Réponse: re de darkgally, postée le 2004-05-27 16:54:03 (S | E)
Greek Mythology is my passion so is not too difficult to write a lot of pages about this subject. It's very interesting to work with specialists and I know the French Schoo of Athens, it's very famous !
Walk on the "Champs Elysées" is very enjoying ^^ But sometimes I have the impression to be in Hell !!!! There is too much people !

Réponse: re de chrisg, postée le 2004-05-27 22:41:42 (S | E)
i was talking about the "heaven" seen by greeks, and you know called the "champs elysees"

Réponse: re: de sitty, postée le 2004-06-04 12:03:57 (S | E)
I like Mythology! Do you know where I can get more information on
Gaelic and greek mythology on the Internet?

Réponse: re de rosminet, postée le 2004-06-04 12:10:49 (S | E)
To Chrisg : Bretagne = Britanny

To sitty, if you use Google, you'll find a lot of website about Greek or Gaelic mythology !

Have you tried the following ones ?

Réponse: re de chrisg, postée le 2004-06-04 14:09:12 (S | E)
yes, I did ! of course ... but, you may agree with me, I would rather read one thousand times as much a "real" book than a web page ...

Réponse: re de sitty, postée le 2004-06-05 11:58:56 (S | E)
Thank you, everybody, for your help!

To chrisg: I agree with you about reading a book!
So, which books do you advice me to read?

Réponse: re de liona, postée le 2004-06-05 22:39:43 (S | E)
I like mythology because it's captivating. Our culture is linked at Greco Egyptian and Celtic cultures. Many people know Lochness's monster. Greco legends were reused like the Electra legend by Giraudoux. Poetes still inspired of ancient myths.

Réponse: re to sitty de chrisg, postée le 2004-06-05 22:45:24 (S | E)
It depends how deep you want to learn and know about mythologies ... I bought a book 6 months ago, 3000 pages, dealing with the philosophy hidden behind each greek myths and heroes ... very very very interesting ...

Am I right in thinking you were answering me ?
If so I would say I love books (I couldn't imagine a day without reading and there's always a pocket book in my bag, just in case I would have a moment to spare!!!) and I love the internet too, but in a different way and not for the same purpose. For me the internet is a kind of magic tool which allows me to find (almost) all the informations I need for fun or for work and more. For example, we would probably never have met in a library, would we ? ;-)

Anyway I was answering Sitty's post :
quote : Do you know where I can get more information on
Gaelic and greek mythology on the Internet?

Réponse: re to Mariet ? de chrisg, postée le 2004-06-05 23:39:02 (S | E)
Would we ? ... well, I read a book a week, I have more than 400 books ... so ... are you going to give me a date ? )))

Réponse: to chrisg de mariet, postée le 2004-06-06 02:54:44 (S | E)
If you still can count them, it's probably because you haven't got half as many as I have... and for quite a time now I've been borrowing them from a library, just because there was no longer enough room in my flat for new ones and I couldn't afford a larger flat!!!
A date ? Why not ? Same place some time tomorrow, does that suit you ?

Réponse: re de chrisg, postée le 2004-06-06 10:09:54 (S | E)
))) You face the same problem as me ! space for books !!!!! I can't borrow them ... Once read, I want them to stay with me !!!!!

I've just wanted to say that I love books, too. But sometimes it is really hard to get the right one on a special subject. That's why I've asked for your Help.
Thank you again for yours, I've found the website interesting!

Réponse: re de mariet, postée le 2004-06-07 22:33:36 (S | E)
