"Tall, Big,Wide,High,Large,Great", lequel choisir???
Il va pourtant vous falloir choisir dans les phrases suivantes, en les traduisant:
(, "Grand" existe en Anglais, mais il signifie "Grandiose")!
1/ C'est le plus grand immeuble de Chicago.
2/ Cette rue n'est pas assez large pour toutes ces voitures.
3/ Frank Lloyd Wright était un grand architecte.
4/ C'est la troisième plus grande ville des Etats-Unis.
5/ C'est un homme grand et fort.
6/ Everest est la montagne la plus haute du monde.
7/ L'année dernière, nous sommes allés voir les Grands Lacs.
8/ Le zoo a une trés grande serre tropicale.
10/ Il mesure 1mètre 80.
11/ Son arrière-grand-mère est née à Chicago.

(Je suppose qu'ici, grand signifie haut et non volumineux)
2/ This street is not wide enough for all these cars
3/ Frank Lloyd Wright was a great architect.
4/ It's the third widest city in the USA.
(ne dit-on pas "Paris is 40 km wide"...)
5/ He's a tall and big man.
6/ Everest is the highest mountain in the world.

10/ He's 1.80 meter tall.

CORRECTION

1/ "It's the highest building in Chicago".
2/ "This road isn't large/wide enough for all these cars".
3/ "Frank Lloyd Wright was a great architect".
4/ "It is the third-biggest city in the USA."
5/ "He is a big man." (Tall+strong=Big)!
6/ "Everest is the highest mountain in the world."
7/ "Last year, we went to see the Great Lakes." ("Great"=grand mais surtout "célèbre").
8/ "The zoo has got a very big tropical glasshouse." ("glasshouse" est le mot Anglais pour "serre"; "Greenhouse" étant son Américanisme)!
10/ "He is 1.8 metres tall."
11/ "His/her great grandmother was born in Chicago."
