Guess a novel
Message de grabuge posté le 30-06-2005 à 20:35:03 (S | E | F | I)

Hello,

Would you like another game ? It's the same of as Lethidee's game but we must find a novel and why not his author.
We can give the first name of the authors to make the game easier.

I start.

The Last week, I read a great book. His author is French and he is an architect.

The story is about a man who is the only person to see and hear a beautiful woman who is in the coma.

Good luck

What an idea, Grabuge !

I'd also say like Idem : Marc Lévy, "Et si c'était vrai" ?
The second part of this novel is "Où es-tu?".

You'd like his other stories, you know !

Réponse: Guess a novel de idem, postée le 02-07-2005 à 09:17:35 (S | E)
hello everybody
No Serena, "Où es-tu" isn't the sequel of this book. Marc Lévy has written the sequel recently but I don't remember the title of this book.
Who do it know knows it?

I know Idem. "Où es-tu" was supposed to be the second part, but hadn't been successful. People found it had nothing to do with the first story, and so did I anyway. Well....

Thank Idem and have happy holiday

Humm, I have to choice choose another novel... It's difficult because I read at least five books a week. I am mulling over....

Oh yes, I have an idea.

This book was written by an English author known in the whole world for his thrillers but he also wrote historic and espionage-novels.

This novel retells the story of a man who was a cathedral builder, and his family, in the middle age.

Can you find it ?

Hello Grabuge !

It's a pity Idem had to go, she was helping so much !

Well, If you read 5 books a week, I've a lot of job ahead then !
Couldn't guess this one either, simply because I haven't read it yet, I'm sure this time.

Why not adding something in that game? For instance, giving at least the first name of the author.

See you!

Hello Poussy

I wonder how I could forget this author... I read this book two or three months ago too and I gave his name to a friend of mine to read his books too.

The author is "Guillaume MUSSO" and his novel is "Et après".

Have you read "Sauve-moi' which is as good as "Et après" ?

I like very much this genre of literary literature and in the same way; do you know Serge Brussolo or Marc Levy ?

I wait for knowing if I found...

PS : Don't worry Poussy, nobody is angry here

Congratulations Grabuge you are the winner!!!!!

Ps: Sauve-moi is from Guillaume Musso too?

And if you want, I have other (s) very good books with a lot of feelings too of course, because I'm an incurable romantic person!!!!

Yes Poussy, Sauve-moi is a novel of G. Musso.

Another book to find :

This novel is about a Pharaoh who prepares (who's preparing) his own funerals. It's a veritable fixation for him because he wants his grave to be totally inviolable.

His architect is a "noose"... and he found an incredible trap.

I'll give you another clue later...

Hello grabuge and everybody

I'm afraid to be without help for the novel written by Serge B...

May I propose a new title ? It's a great novel written a long time ago.
For me, it is a mystery because some people aren't sure of the real author. Anyway, it's the story of a strange man who is in quest of adventure and truth.
Do you have an idea of this character ?

Réponse: Guess a novel de serena, postée le 09-07-2005 à 01:25:14 (S | E)
Hi there !

Lethidee, before trying (I say "trying" ) to guess your novel, I'm going to answer Grabuge. I'm given almost the whole name, and I think (and search) a lot before finding who it's from. Now with yours......gonna really be ! .

Grabuge, I was kidding while telling you to have pity. . I know you always do, but when in the deepest despair, we usually talk nonsense.

I think the book you're talking about is by Serge Brussolo, The Pharaoh's labyrinth.

Awaiting your "" (hope so anyway ), and start other secret agent's researches with Lethidee.

The Pharaoh's labyrinth

I'm very happy....

Now, I'm waiting for your proposition

Lethidée,

I'm afraid, I don't see what sort of novel you speak about. When was this book written ?

Thank you for this another clue

Hello

This novel was written a long time ago, four centuries ago when his author has been emprisoned.
The principal character of this book is an old knight who wants to go to the conquest of the world and fight the devil people and revenge the offences.
Is it easier to find it now ?

Also, need to tell you that you have taste. After Ken Follett (I'm reading now one of his books and I can already tell you he has very a good style), gonna discover Serge Brussolo. Thanks, heartily.

Lethidee, while waiting to see if Aimen is right, can you please tell us in which century that book had been written? I do have no idea about it!

Hello grabuge, aimen and serena

You're right grabuge aimen, the author is Cervantes and "Don Quichotte" had been written for the first volume in 1605 and the second in 1615.
Some people said that Cervantes wasn't the real author but no certitude about that.

Hello,
I could guess it because I told the story to Aïmen, 2 days ago. He found the passage about Don Quichote fighting against the windmills very funny. He has visited lately the mills of Vignal at Apinac, it's near S-étienne.
Let me think of another novel. I'll suggest it to you in a while.
(I give you the turn grabuge because I haven' got a title in mind, sorry)

Ok Aimen, Good! So while waiting for you to choose one in your mind, let me give you something. ()

I really forgot it was my turn Grabuge, sorry.

A young lawyer, well-paid and well-liked, stole a lot of money from the firm he was working in and ran for his life. After many years, they caught him. But the others could do nothing against him, as he knew something very disturbing for them : the truth.

The first letter of the author's first name is : J

Which novel am I talking about?

Wonderful both Grabuge and Kathleen !

Yes, it's The partner by John Grisham.
I liked it so much, even if in the end, the woman who helped that lawyer and was to marry him, deceived him and ran away with the 90 million dollars he'd stolen from his own partners.
Can we ever trust women? That was the question I wondered about.

Ok! Whose turn is it now?

Kathleen, I take the turn because you're not here now.

It's a book I liked very much - more than the movie which was -for me- one of the bests.

It's the story of a man who, for not going so as not to go to jail, prefers to be interned committed in a psychiatric hospital. ..

I do like Le Clezio, I read many of his novels, I love also his books for young people like "Lullaby" or "Celui qui n'avait jamais vu la mer"
I think there is an English tractuction of "le Checheur d'or" : "the Prospector".
It's your turn now, I'm leaving for a few days. See you soon

Hello

I take the hand (Is it correct ?)

It's a play after having been a new. It's an allegory about the mass ideology. A man, alone, struggles against it...

Hello grabuge,

Is it something a novel written by Kafka or maybe Boris Vian?
I'm just speculating!!

Réponse: Guess a novel de grabuge, postée le 16-07-2005 à 21:58:29 (S | E)
Hello,

Kafka était l'ainé, par contre, l'auteur auquel je pense et Boris Vian aurait pu aller à la même école... mais pas dans la même classe.

Hello

Is this play written by Sartre ?

Réponse: Guess a novel de grabuge, postée le 16-07-2005 à 22:01:10 (S | E)
NO, It's not Sartre

Comme ça ne peut pas être Bertold Brecht, je pensais à "Homme pour Homme" 1925, alors c'est peut-être A.Camus.

Lethidee,

What do you think about this play ? When I read it, I though about SS

Hello grabuge

The world of Ionesco isn't mine and I red this book a long time ago because I had to study it. I must confess that I don't remember it very well.
Good night

Hello !

Guess this one please. .....

A writer, fed up with the stories he used to write, decided in his last one to "kill" the main character which made him become famous. And he did. He started writing a new one, which deals with subjects he prefers. One day, he wakes up and finds himself in an unknown house, his legs broken, unable to move. He was there, alone, with a woman who didn't forgive him to have killed that main character.

The main character of this writer's stories is the title of the book I'm asking you to find out.

Hello,
May I propose a novel?

It is the story of a young American specialist who is called by an old man because of an horrible murder which has just happened. The victim has been "tattooed" by his murderer. The word tattooed on his skin reminds the young specialist of a forgotten "sect".

Good luck

May I suggest that one in parallel, I'm sure you agree

It' s a very brilliant man, deaf, blind and mute who had been able to solve a crime.

Yes, it is. The beginning is a bit stunning and long, compared to "the Da Vinci code", but then I read it with a real pleasure, and as for the former one, I could not stop reading.

Good morning,

Alright grabuge, here is a clue. There is a scarf(foulard) in the story which is important for him to solve the crime(it's an evidence). If I remember well, he proves also the innocence of a woman. I read it when I was 18, the author is French and well_known. He died a few years ago: In 1995 or 1996 ??

Good evening,
I'm sorry, I have forgotten that you were looking for clues, obviouslt, you haven't read my book or maybe you don't simply remember that beatiful story written by ---Des---, who died a few years ago.
The story was about a very clever blind mute and deaf man who helped the police solve a crime....

I add something to guide you.
When you aren't able to see, to hear or to speak, the two other senses(touch and smell senses) are so developed that they replace the others and you can guess things or feel things that the others are unable to see...

Grabuge, you're really amazing.

I also read Guy des Cars. But the only book I remember is "La maudite". Seems that it left a mark on me, cause at the time, I found it incredible and somehow frightening.
