Correction 6 mai

Complete each of the sentences with the correct form of one of the verbs below and the particle down. Use each verb once only.

2. He’s driving too fast! Slow down or you’ll have an accident.
3. The flower was dying so we had to chop it down.
4. It was very windy last night and several trees were blown down.
5. Did you hear on the news that a UN plane was shot down this morning.
6. During the sale some prices were marked down by as much as 70 per cent.
7. She’d better take her umbrella because it’s pouring down.
8. If you can’t give up smoking entirely, at least try to cut down*.
9. There’s no need to get excited! Try to calm down !
10. This milk’s too hot! I’ll wait until it has cooled down before I drink it.
11. Make yourself at home. Sit down they’ll be with you in a moment.
12. Tall people can be very frightening for small children. If you’re tall, kneel down when you’re speaking to them so that you’re at their level.

* I guess we can say "try to cut back", too; can't we?

Oh thanks but I swear I've already seen "You should cut back on fatty food" ... so why not "you should cut back on the amount of cigarettes you smoke" ?
But I think it's better to say "cut down on smoking" instead of "cut back on smoking" (doesn't sound very good)

- En jardinage, quand on taille (to prune) haies, arbres, arbustes, buissons, on emploie to cut back, pas to cut down.
- Quand on essaye de moins fumer--> to cut down
- Je dois "cut back" on..... quand je veux faire de économies de......
