Message de here4u posté le 29-07-2021 à 14:44:21 (S | E | F)
Hello, Dear Friends!

This work is for the courageous and hard-working ones among you... and I hope you'll be many...

I) Translate into English:

8. « Les accidents n’arrivent pas seuls … On les laisse arriver ! »

II) Optional expression: comment on either sentence 5, 7, or 8! (in 130 words!)

This exercise is a and its correction will be online on Sunday, August 15th, 2021.
I'm sure THE FORCE will be with you!
Good luck!

Hello,
Ready for correction

1 Don't you know that yet? Nothing should make you ashamed, you don't need to apologize for anything, let me help you.

2 They can't be together. You know, it's for the best. For the best of whom? Of all.

3 Did he force you? No, no... he didn't really need.

4 The only thing left to do is to take a long breath and breathe deeply.

5 I'm sorry but I discovered that to ignore the future doesn't make it disappear. Whatever happens, I'll manage.

6 We caught you in a lie! In a word it's true but I don't understand why she is making so much fuss. This isn't the first time I lie.

7 May be she thinks you are a man not a kid. Children lie all the time but a man keeps one's word.

8 Accidents don't happen alone. We let them happen.

Thank you here4u for your interesting exercises .

It's true, when we think about that , accidents often happen as a result of an error on our part: a lack of attention, a bad evaluation of the danger incurred, or advice that has not been listened to.The risks have not been sufficiently controlled, or we didn't take enough precautions. The operating instructions of the machines used have been misunderstood"... A lot of reasons can produce an accident, even if it is not deliberately intended, it never happens without a cause and sometimes if there is by happenstance, we were in the wrong place at the wrong time ! even if the fault does not fall to us, there is always an accountable. READY TO BE CORRECTED

Hello Here4U
Thanks a lot! I loved both exercises a lot! Finally, I've hesitated on the sentence to comment between the 7th and the 8th one as I didn't get the 1st part of sentence 5
I. Translate into English:

8. « Les accidents n’arrivent pas seuls … On les laisse arriver ! »

1. "Don't you know that by now? Nothing should shame you and you don't need to apologise for anything.. Let me help you!"
2. "They can't be together... You know it's for the best" "Whose best?" "Everyone's..."
3. "Did he force you?" "No, no... He didn't have to, really!"
4. "The only thing left for you to do is to take a deep breath in and out..."
5. "Sorry but I've found out that not taking the future into account doesn't make it disappear... Whatever happens, I'll work it out."
6. "You've been caught lying!" "In a nutshell, that's right... but I don't understand why she's making such a fuss over it : I've been lying before..."
7. "Maybe she thinks you're a man, not a kid.... Kids lie all the time but a man keeps his word..."
8. "Accidents don't happen out of the blue... They are let happen!"

II) Optional expression: comment on either sentence 5, 7, or 8! (in 130 words!)
7.
The truth is also said to come out of children's mouths.... We hear everything and its opposite. (sigh)
I do think we can't label a group of people, making such definite statements which obviously can't be applied to everyone.
What we can say is grown-ups have (or should have) a more developed sense of what's right and wrong. Commitment, keeping one's words should mean more to men than to kids : Men can dedicate their lives to a (good cause) while kids can't always realise to what extent their words have an impact on others. Men can lie and when they lie, they know what they're doing.
Kids can lie too... but generally for silly insignificant things

Hello, Dear Friends!

Here are the sentences you had to translate... You gave me some very good work et

I) Translate into English:

Laisse moi t’aider ! »
Don’t you know that by now? You have nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to apologise for. Let me be here for you…

- T’excuser de quelque chose : to apologise for something.

«They can’t be together… you know it’s for the best!» «Whose best?» «Everyone’s!»

- "Can’t" exprime l’impossibilité.

«Did he twist your arm?» «No, no, he didn’t have to, really!»

- Forcer quelqu’un : to force somebody to do something/ to twist somebody's arm/ to constrain somebody to do sth/ to pressure someone into doing something/ to coerce somebody into doing something/
- il n’a pas eu besoin (sous-entendu = de le faire !) => he didn’t need TO.

The only thing left to be done for you is to take a long deep breath… and slowly exhale…

"the only thing left to be done…"
- prendre une respiration : to breathe in/ to take a deep breath/ to catch a deep breath/
- souffler longuement : = expirer longuement : to breathe out/ to exhale/ Lien internet

"I’m sorry but I found ignoring the future never makes it go away. Whatever happens, I’ll make it work."

- Ne pas tenir compte de : to ignore/ not take into account/
- To make something disappear.
- S’arranger de quelque chose : to manage/ to make it work/ to see to it that it works/ to make sure/ to find a way to/

«You were caught in a lie!» «In a nutshell, it’s true! but I don’t see what she’s making such a big deal about… It’s not the first time I’ve done it!»

- Attraper en plein mensonge : to catch sb in a lie/
- En un mot : in a word/ in a nutshell/
- Faire des histoires : to make trouble/ to make a fuss/ to raise a stink/ to make a big deal about something/ to rock the boat/
- C’est la première fois que : it’s the first time + present perfect.

«She may think of you as a man, not as a kid… Kids lie all the time, but a man is always as good as his word!»

- Elle pense que tu es un homme : she thinks of you as a man,

- S’en tenir à : to keep to/ to stick to/ keep your word/ stick to your word/

8. « Les accidents n’arrivent pas seuls … On les laisse arriver ! »
«Accidents don’t just happen! People let them happen!»

- Arriver : "to happen" renferme la nuance de hasard ("chance").
- To let somebody do something.
Encore BRAVO à vous pour votre TRES BON TRAVAIL!
