Hello dear Friends!

Voici votre nouveau casse-tête favori ! 'Playing and working with words'... La date limite pour cet exercice est fin mars 2025. Je sais que certains doivent piaffer d'impatience... You can go for it!

Toujours beaucoup de sollicitations, tentations et obligations qui nous détournent de l'anglais, mais bon ! Tout le monde peut réfléchir et faire marcher ses neurones même si le printemps semble vouloir nous montrer quelques signes d'avance !

Espérons que vous vaincrez toutes les réunions de travail et les embouteillages monstrueux des grandes villes et leurs environs, et parviendrez quand même à vous trouver du temps pour travailler avec nous un petit moment !
N'oubliez pas de vous creuser les méninges avec nous...

Je vous rappelle que cet exercice a des règles qui doivent être respectées. Lisez-les bien si vous ne les connaissez pas ! Ce travail est loin d'être un jeu... mais il peut être très ludique... Il vous laisse également toute liberté de choisir votre thème!

Using THE 8 WORDS given below (the 2 verbs can be put in whatever tenses or forms you fancy but MUST remain verbs!), 2 adjectives or adverbs, 2 nouns and 2 link words, + a given structure and the suitable punctuation, search your minds, think hard and create AN ONLY meaningful SENTENCE. "Easy", isn't it? (In fact, it's more easily said than done and advanced learners or natives can step in!! )

- You CANNOT change the nature of the words!
- You CANNOT use two or more compulsory words consecutively!

PLEASE, WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR SENTENCE, PUT CAPITALS TO THE GIVEN WORDS! [and specify the number of words at the end.]

Je vous rappelle qu'« une phrase », une seule, se termine par un point [final, d'exclamation ou d'interrogation], peut avoir de la ponctuation interne ",/; /:/ [...], et qu'elle doit avant tout avoir un sens. (Il ne doit y avoir qu'UN SEUL POINT dans votre phrase - à la fin.) Le but ultime est de faire une seule phrase complexe, mais courte... Je le répète : elle doit avoir un sens et sa logique interne !
Cet exercice est TRES difficile, c'est pourquoi il demande beaucoup de réflexion et d'attention, de rigueur aussi dans l'application des règles. Vous ne devez le poster QU'UNE FOIS (ne faire qu'un seul exemplaire, mais vous pouvez éditer votre production en m'indiquant le changement auparavant ! )

Pour que chacun ait la possibilité de travailler avec nous, cet exercice a des niveaux différents. Vous pouvez choisir celui qui vous convient :
Le niveau fera une seule phrase en moins de 80 mots.
Le niveau une seule phrase et toujours 60 mots, au plus.
Le niveau **, pour les plus habiles, fera une phrase de moins de 40 mots...

I shouted in a HURRIED voice: 'I'm on your HEELS, you're out of AMUNITION, and I've HAWKS eyes, so be SENSIBLE and don't CONCEAL yourself or PRETEND to escape : UNLESS magically DISAPPEARING, this is your last BREATH. 39 words

It can be a great sentence BUT...

- revoir ce qu'est un gérondif... C'est un NOM. (tu as mis un verbe en -ing) et on ne peut pas mettre de gérondif immédiatement derrière 'unless'. Il faut un verbe à l'indicatif.

Tu peux remanier ta phrase en la collant corrigée en dessous et en spécifiant : my sentence 2. Courage c'est facilement changeable... mais si tu veux rester à moins de 40 mots, tu vas forcément avoir un peu de travail !

Quelque chose n'est pas clair dans ta phrase... J'ai l'impression que tu dis le contraire de ce que tu veux dire...

I can't PRETEND to see anything, UNLESS I am blind.

Tu essaies de nous éclaircir cela, please... (Fais des essais... et éventuellement passe par la traduction...) Courage!

Je veux dire = Je ne peux pas prétendre ne rien voir à moins d'être aveugle

un autre petit problème : I've HAWKS eyes [ deux problèmes, en fait !] Courage aussi...

oui, puisqu'il y a 'to' marque de l'infinitif entre les deux...

- Attention, l’expression est ‘to call in sick’ et c’est un verbe. Je n’ai, pour le moment, pas trouvé comment transformer ceci en nom… HURRIED est demandé, en tant qu’adjectif… et ne peut donc pas être transformé en adverbe, ce que j’aurais voulu faire… Any ideas to make your suggestions right?
- To behave like a heel : à première lecture, je n’avais pas compris ! Après recherches :

heel n informal, dated (contemptible person) (vieilli) crapule, canaille nf
Minnie's fiancé behaved like an utter heel, jilting her at the altar.
Ce sens est à la fois daté, vieilli et informel, peu importe, pour nous, c’est bon !

- Good, dear magie! the 'two negations' are necessary (certainly because of the verb ‘pretend’) : faire semblant de ne rien dire : dire quelque chose ! C’est un peu comme pour la construction de ‘to wish’ pour exprimer des regrets, ou tu dois dire le contraire de ce que tu dis en français… (I wish I hadn’t yielded to temptation: je regrette d’avoir cédé à la tentation… ) d’où l’importance de ne pas passer par une traduction, mais de bien te fixer sur le sens des mots utilisés. Can you, please, give us your 'last try'!

- Happynutmeg, your ‘last try’ [ we could feel some weariness there in the word ‘last’! ] was perfect too! Practice makes perfect!
