Ex59/Dumbfounded, gasping for breath
Message de here4u posté le 21-11-2015 à 10:17:17 (S | E | F)
Hello, dear friends,

Such is life… At some moments, we can’t do anything but stop, stunned, flabbergasted, crushed, horrified and consider how stupid and useless what we’re doing seems to be, IS, for sure.
Then, as fast as we can, we should brace ourselves, comfort, grieve, pamper our wounds and no matter how insignificant, useless and ludicrous what we’re doing seems to be, go on and live, simply, out of respect, out of humanity, out of Love too…
Let’s do that today. This is a exercise, and collective correction will be on Monday, November 30th.
More than ever, let THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, dear friends.

1)Translate into English:

3) Translate into French:
“Lottie had hated being a child, hearing her parents’ skimping and scraping. Bess had never seemed to notice. All she ever wanted was to go outside and play. She learned to skate on borrowed skates. She rode a borrowed bicycle. Lottie couldn’t wait to grow up and buy herself the best of everything. As soon as anyone would hire her, Lottie put herself to work. She minded babies, she ran errands for the old. She never touched a penny of her money, though her child’s mouth watered for ice cream and candy.”

FINISHED.
A vibrant tribute. I wish those innocents could have lived much longer.

1)
For this exercise, I tried to complete my usual grammatical traps ... to invent, as ever, to talk to you about everything, about nothing, about anything... I really tried very hard ... I just couldn't do it...
I'd like to, no, I NEED to talk to you about him today ...
Vincent was young, discreet, handsome, sensitive, clever ... a poet, who admired the arts, languages and the guitar...
In professional class (*), together, during these three years, we've been working, laughing, "playing", talking, thinking, analysing a lot, reprimanding sometimes as well... studying the psychological twists and turns of Lennie and George, Stephen Dedalus, Holden Caulfield, Othello, Eveline... the whole thing in English, that was only natural... (*) I don't know what a "classe de Spécialistes" is.
In cooperation with my children, the whole group had ploted for me a real post-Bac surprise party for an end of a school year ! Wonderful surprise, moving memories...
They all joked, brought home-made brownies, sodas, laughed, strummed the guitar, sang, used infinitives, causatives, passives with humour as if the whole thing were easy...
Since then, Vincent, young architect, got married, became a father... Life was smiling to them, they had a bright future...
I'll never forget you ... Tribute to you and to all the others, too... They loved rock and roll and life too much ...

2) a) She can't hear me when I talk to her, and she can't see me when I wave at her
2) b) The more often you'll read this dictation, the fewer mistakes you'll make afterwards.
2) c) He'll never forgive his brother unless he confesses that he cheated

J'aime bien les appeler 'Lovers of English!'
Bonne soirée!

Hello!
See you!

Hello, dear lemage!

This is my try, it’s OK for me.

I)Translate into English:
For this exercise, I tried to finalize my usual grammatical traps…
to invent, as usual, to talk to you about anything and nothing…I did try really,
very hard…I wasn’t able to do it…
I feel like, what am I saying, I NEED, today, to talk to you about him…
Vincent was young, discreet, good-looking, sensitive, clever…poet, great lover of literature, of languages, and guitar…
In language classes (I don’t know how to translate it), together, during these three years, we were working, laughing, “playing”, talking, thinking, analyzing a lot, scolded sometimes as well…studied the psychological maze of Lennie and George, Stephen Dedalus, Holden Caulfield, Othello, Eveline…all in English, it was only natural…
In concert with my children, the whole group had plotted to me a real after baccalaureate «surprised party " for the end of school year! Wonderful surprise, poignant memories…
They all joked, brought home made brownies, sodas, laughed, strummed the guitar, sang, handled funnily infinitives, causatives, passives as if all was easy…
Since, Vincent, young architect, got married, and became daddy…Life smiled on them, everything was promised…
I will never forget you… Tribute to you, and all the others too…They liked too much the Rock and the Life…

Jointly with my children, the whole group had plotted behind me a true post-bac "surprise-party" for a schoolyear ending! Marvel of a surprise, moving recollections....
They all had been kidding, bringing home-made brownies, a few sodas, laughing, strumming guitars, singing, humorously tackling with infinitives, causatives, passives, as if the whole was a piece of cake.....

Hello Here4u, Hello everybody :
You know I am wholeheartedly with you

1. Into English
For this exercise, I tried to give purpose to my usual grammatical traps...To invent, as always, to talk to you about everythhing, nothing, anything. I really tried very hard...I couldn't. Not only I want, I NEED today to tell about him.
Vincent was young, discreet, good-looking, sensitive, clever...poet, great literature, languages and guitar lover...
In class of Specialists, together during those three years, we worked, laughed "played", spoke, thought, analyzed a lot, reprimanded also sometimes...studied the Lennie et George, Stephen Dedalus, Holden Caulfield, Othello, Eveline psychologicals twists and turns...All in English, it was just natural...
Together with my children, all the group had plotted me a real "surprise party" after Bac for an end of school year ! Wonderful surpise, moving memories...
They all had joked, brought some home-made brownies, sodas, laughed strummed guitar, sang, used with humour, infinitives, causatives, passives as if everything was easy. Since then Vincent , young architect, got married, became dad... The life smiled to them, everything was promised to them.
I'll never forget you...Homage to you, to all the others too... They loved the Rock and the Life too much...

2.Bonus
a) She can't hear me when I talk to her and she can't see me when I wave to her.
b) The more often you'll read this dictation, the fewer mistakes you'll make in it, after that.
c) He won't never forgive that his brother unless he confesses to him that he had cheated.

Doris WEST

Bonsoir, dear here4u.

Here I'm,
once again,
after a huge strain,
to submit you,
the outcome,
of my committed brain,
to succeed in avoiding,
traps and tricks,
of your demanding,
last exercice.

1)Translate into English:
By this exercise I have attempted to direct my usual
grammatical traps....to contrive/devise, as always, to talk you about everything, anything, nothing, no matter what....I really
attempted very hard to...but I haven't succeeded ...

I've wished, nay ,I'd rather say I need, right/now/ today, to tell you about him....
Vincent was young, quiet, nice, sensitive, intelligent....poet/poetic, fond of Arts, languages and the guitar.

I thank you very much for your nice work and remain,
Wishing you a great Sunday.

So long

Hello and sorry for posting at the (very) last minute! Here is my try.

1)Translate into English:
For this exercise, I've tried to fine-tune my usual grammatical traps / pitfalls, to make things up, and as I regularly do / and as always, to tell / to talk to you about everything and nothing, about anything. I've really tried hard / I tried very hard but just couldn't…
I want / I feel like, what am I saying, I really need / I do need to talk to you about him today …
Vincent was young, discreet, handsome, sensitive, clever / smart /intelligent… a poet / poetical, a big lover of literature, (of) languages and (of) the guitar.
In comprehensive / immersive English courses / classes, together during those three years, we worked, laughed, ''played'', talked, thought / reflected, analysed a lot / a great deal, also raised voices at times… and studied / looked into the psychological twists and turns of Lennie and George, Stephen Dedalus, Holden Caulfield, Othello, Eveline … all of that in English, that goes without saying…
In conjunction with my children, the whole group had concocted for me a real post A-level / baccalaureate party at the end of the schoolyear! It was a wonderful surprise with very moving memories…
They all joked, brought in home-made brownies, fizzy drinks / soft drinks, laughed, strummed the guitar, sang, humorously used infinitive, causal and passive clauses as if there was nothing difficult in all that…
Vincent, a young architect, got married and became a father since then. Their lives were ahead of them and they were destined to a bright future.
Never shall I forget you… I pay tribute to you and (to) all others as well … They were extremely keen on Rock and life …

2) Bonus :
a) She doesn't hear me when I talk / I'm talking to her and she doesn't see me when I wave / I'm waving at / to her.
b) The more often you'll read that dictation, the less / fewer mistakes you'll make in it afterwards.
c) He'll never forgive his brother unless he admits to having cheated / admits that he had cheated.

Hello Dear hardworkers and Friends!

1)Translate into English:

To make this exercise, I have tried to combine my usual grammar "traps", to deal with any ordinary topic. I've tried very hard, in vain... I simply couldn't pretend...

In fact, I'm feeling like speaking, I'll even say I DO need to speak about him...
Vincent was reserved, extremely handsome, sensitive, intelligent... He was a poet, a great lover of literature, of languages, and of the guitar...

For those three wonderful years, with other “Lovers of English”, we worked *, laughed, "played", thought a lot, analyzed even more, scolded a little sometimes... We studied the psychological complexities of Lennie and George, Holden Caulfield, Stephen Dedalus, Othello, Eveline, all in English, of course, that was the deal...
Together with my own kids, the whole group had plotted an after-graduation "surprise party" at the end of a school year, a wonderful surprise, such moving memories...
All of them had told jokes, had brought home-made brownies, sodas, laughed, strummed the guitar, handled infinitive, causative and passive clauses with humour, as if everything had been easy.

Vincent, a young architect, got married, became a Dad… Their lives were smiling at them… They’d been promised a bright future…

You’ll never be forgotten *. I pay tribute to you, to all the others, too… They loved Rock and Roll and Life too much…

- conceive/complete /finish /finalise /wrap up //usual difficulties // to fine-tune = peaufiner.
- usual subject / everyday topic/ ordinary topic/issue
- I COULDN’T
- twists and turns/intricacies/complexities
- the deal/ the rule
- In concert with /Accomplices/Together with/
- they’d [had] been promised a bright future/ a bright future was open to them…
- A tribute to you (si vous choisissiez de n'exprimer que « Hommage à toi », le déterminant était indispensable. (« A tribute to you …
- To find a purpose to/to give a purpose to /
- "Not only do I feel like/wish to/ but I also need to …" Not only am I feeling…, but I also need to … » (Not only do I feel … but I also need …)

She can’t hear me when I talk to her, and she can’t see me when I wave at her.

The more times you’ll read that dictation/text, the fewer mistakes you’ll make afterwards.

-(progression parallèle: the more + dénombrable pluriel = augmentation = plus... => the fewer + dénombrable pluriel= diminution = moins ...)

He’ll never forgive his brother, unless he confesses he had cheated.
(unless + indicatif : avait triché = past perfect d’antériorité à l’action narrée.)

Doris WEST.
The Richer, The Poorer.

- /son enfance
- (1) go outside and play = ici, = aller jouer, sortir POUR jouer.
- (2) “can’t wait to do something” = attendre avec impatience, brûler d’impatience. = look forward to doing [sth] = can't wait for [sth] (to happen) , dying for [sth], dying to do [sth, be anxious to do [sth] .
