Oral/ spaces and exchanges
Message de hughug posté le 16-05-2018 à 16:43:28 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
je passe mon oral d'anglais pour le bac sous peu quelqu'un peut-il jeter un coup d’œil à mon texte et m'indiquer s'il contient des erreurs svp s'il vous plait ?
Merci pour vos réponses.

I'm going to talk about the notion of Spaces and Exchanges. To begin with, I'd like to give a definition of exchange. An exchange is an act of giving one thing and receiving another in return. The exchanges can appear on many forms: people, trade, information. Nowadays, the different spaces of the world are more and more connected to each other and it promotes exchanges between different countries and different cultures. So today, my key question is the following one : What are the main forms of exchanges in the world and what are their advantages ?

First of all, exchanges can have a greatly influence on the food habits of a country. For example, today, English food is for its majority inspired by Mediterranean, Indian and Chinese food whereas back in the early 60s, very few English people were allowed to say what a spring-roll was and the olive oil wasn’t very used in the kitchen. In fact, immigration in England and departure on holidays of English people in France, Italy, Spain, changed the food habits. And the fact that Indian restaurants were cheaper than English ones speed up this change. Now, the chicken tikka massala is most popular in England than fish & chips and curry is one of the most popular dishes. These exchanges permitted to English people to discover a new kitchen and new savours (that they apparently liked).

Then, in another document make us meditate about the importance of speaking a foreign language. Rachel who pursues French classes wants to drop them next year, her mother disagree with that. For her, speaking a foreign language makes you more employable because of the globalization and the global business and makes you more open-minded, more altruistic. I personally totally agree with the point of view of Rachel’s mother : learning a foreign language also teach you about a foreign culture and allows you to understand it and I think that this part of understanding is essential to be more tolerant because most of the time when somebody don’t understand something, they reject it or worse, they fear it and racism and xenophobia are generally the result of this. Moreover, it is proved that learning a foreign language makes you more imaginative and improves a student’s grades in other subjects.

Ji, a North Korean woman who found in England a political asylum with her family when she was 10, also talk about this open-mindedness of the person who travels a lot or who immigrated like her. For her, it is important to live in a country with an important international community and to be surrounded with people from different cultural backgrounds and that’s all she cares about. Furthermore, her family escape secretly North Korea because their conditions of living weren’t satisfying so we can say that immigration, which is a form of exchange, permit to improve quality of life. If Ji return in her birth country, she would be put in a jail or killed for having do that.

Finally, I’m going to talk about the photography of four little girls playing together and dancing in a ring in a playground. Nothing particular at this point but the fact is that two of them are wearing a veil and we can see on the ground, a symbolic continuous line that separate these girls from the other girls. In spite of that, the four girls look very happy and seem to be having a lot of fun. This photography shows us that exchanges can also bring diversity and create some good friendships.

In conclusion, I would say that exchanges can take on some many forms : kitchen, language, culture, immigration, and they all bring some diversity (of foods, of languages, of people), tolerance and even if intelligence. After all, the world is continuously changing and borders aren’t freeze but they didn’t stop moving in the History. When we think about it, every country had, at a time, been colonized and so, our culture is already a mix of several different ones.
