Notion/Idea of progress
Message de terminalees posté le 25-04-2019 à 19:20:13 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,

The notion I'm going to speak is about Idea of progress.

First I'm going to define this notion. Progress is a medical, social or technological evolution, which contributes to ameliorate human beings conditions and the world where he lives. Scientific progress is a fine example.
The theme of Scientific Progress can illustrate the notion the idea of Progress. Scientific Progress is part of our everyday life and especially of tomorrow. Indeed, scientific progress will change our way of life for the better or for the worse…

So in relation to the notion Idea of Progress, my presentation will deal with this question :
Is scientist progress always beneficial? To illustrate this notion, we will focus on the advantages and the disadvantages of the scientist progress through the examples of designer babies and genetic engineering process.

Designer Babies is a scientist program, better known as the PGD (Pre implantation Genetic Diagnosis). This program was invented to screen out diseases. The stem cell research opens the way for treatment for diseases such as diabetes, sida, Parkinson’s or physical disability. It is an opportunity for the couples who have a genetic disease. It could allow them to have normal babies.
Genetic engineering is an umbrella term, which refers to the ability to select desirable genetic information. This artificial selection has the power to enhance specific characteristics for mankind’s benefit. Indeed, genetic engineering enables scientists to develop animals and plants to suit their needs.
These examples show that scientist progress is above all an opportunity for people to ameliorate their life’s condition and their relationship with the world, when necessary.

However, the scientist progress can rapidly become a means to satisfy people’s personal desires and no longer people’s needs.
Most Americans are in favor of PGD when it’s used to prevent diseases. The other part is against it because it’s not ethical. For some, tinkering with human embryos leaves the door wide open to all sorts of abuses. Moreover, only the rich can afford to use new technologies such as PGD, so it creates social inequalities. Chossing the color of hair, eyes or skin to create the perfect baby poses ethical problems because that's what the Nazis made during the Second World War and this removes the cultures and differences.

To conclude, the scientist progress is at the heart of our society. It’s not the scientist progress within him, which raise the problem, but the way to use it. If they make good use of this opportunity, they can achieve the right results and obtain benefit for the entire mankind. If not, scientist progress can become an instrument for selfish men, and cause harmful consequences on human beings.

Bonjour
erreurs en bleu
The notion I'm going to speak is about(inversez) Idea of progress.

First I'm going to define this notion. Progress is a medical, social or technological evolution, which contributes to ameliorate (improve) human beings conditions and the world where he lives.

The stem cell research opens the way for treatment for diseases such as diabetes, sida (aids), Parkinson’s or physical disability.
These examples show that scientist progress is above all an opportunity for people to ameliorate (improve) their life’s condition and their relationship with the world, when necessary. (bon on sent ici le paragraphe fait en cours et récité)

However, the scientist (adjectif scientific, sans the)progress can rapidly become a means to satisfy people’s personal desires and no longer people’s needs.
Most Americans are in favor of PGD when it’s used to prevent diseases. The other part(maladroit) is against it because it’s not ethical. For some, tinkering with human embryos leaves the door wide open to all sorts of abuses(rarement pluriel). Moreover, only the rich can afford to use new technologies such as PGD, so it creates social inequalities. Choosing the color of hair, eyes or skin to create the perfect baby poses ethical problems because that's what the Nazis made(made = fabriquèrent, did = firent) during the Second World War and this removes the cultures and differences.(sens?)

To conclude, the scientist progress is at the heart of our society. It’s not the scientist progress within him (itself), which raise (le s) the problem, but the way to use it. If they make good use of this opportunity, they can achieve the right results and obtain benefit for the entire mankind. If not, scientist progress can become an instrument for selfish men, and cause harmful consequences on (for) human beings.
