Example: There is no point in seeing that film

APPEAL

The last time she went to the cinema was ages ago
BEEN

It's good thing you brought your cheque book or we wouldn't have been able to buy the car
YOU
We wouldn't have been able to buy the car.................your cheque book
The president should lower taxes
I
If..............lower taxes
My parents didn't allow me to stay up late when I was young
LET

S'il vous plaît aidez-moi à comprendre c'est très important.
Merci de votre aide !

Hello
Then I don't understand what is wanted for #4. Since you both think it's wrong, I was going to say "If only I had lower taxes." => The president should lower them! I guess this one is too difficult for me.

Hello.
I'm not sure what lucile had in mind, but I was thinking of using the subjunctive. Sherry

Yes, that seems to work too. I guess I was trying to make the sentence as short as possible. (Too short, in this case.)

Hello dear np,
I thought that if I were a student I wouldn't have used the word 'only'.
Don't you agree np? ...you seem to agree now. That sentence was not quite easy in fact.
sherry, you have guessed what I was thinking of.

Tout d'abord merci aux personnes présentes qui m'ont aidé, je n'ai vraiment aucune idée pour la 4 c'est pourquoi je demanderai à mon professeur Lundi, mais sinon je n'arrive pas à faire cette phrase :
The flight to London was cheaper than I had thought it would be.
AS
The flight to London was ............I had thought it would be
J'avais pensé mettre ça mais on m'a dit que c'était faux
The flight to London was not as cheap as I had thought it would be
Merci de votre aide !

Hello,
The flight to London was not as cheap as I had thought it would be ...pour moi c'est OK.
Réfléchissez pour la 4
The president should lower taxes
I
If..............lower taxes
= le Président devrait baisser les impôts
mais vous devez utiliser I et If, donc dire 'si je...' à vous de trouver ce que vous feriez si ...
Je vous ai bien aidée!

Hello roxmila.
The initial sentence is...The flight to London was cheaper than I had thought it would be.
The flight to London was not as cheap as I had thought it would be actually means the opposite of the first sentence. Since you need a sentence that means the same...the flight was less _____ than I had thought it would be.
Fill in the blank, and you will have a good answer.
Sherry

Hello,
Si j'ai bien tout suivi...il faut utiliser le mot 'as' dans la nouvelle phrase; sherry a raison en soulevant un problème de sens mais qui sera résolu en changeant 'cheap' pour 'expensive'.J'avais été un peu trop rapide, sorry.
The flight to London was cheaper than I had thought it would be.
AS
The flight to London was not as expensive as I had thought it would be.

You are welcome sherry.
It is sometimes more difficult to help with short sentences than with a whole text because we may be less concentrated on our work.
Best regards

Bonsoir,
"The president should lower taxes
I
If..............lower taxes "
Si vous regardez une phrase de Lucile, vous avez une piste.
if I were a student, I wouldn't have used the word 'only'.
Je pense à une phrase du type:
Si j'étais président, je baisserais les impôts.
