Message de maylisdlcrx posté le 09-05-2014 à 22:00:51 (S | E | F)
Bonsoir !
je passe mon oral la semaine prochaine et je voudrais vérifier s'il vous plaît qu'il n'y ait pas de grosses fautes de grammaire ou de temps dans la notion Mythes et Héros que j'ai rédigée.
Merci d'avance de votre aide

MYTHS AND HEROES
In the past, a myth was related to gods ans heroes, like Hercules, in the Greek mythology. The myths were created to explain a phenomenon as the seasons or the human’s creation. Today, a heroe has lost his antic sense of demigod ans he has become someone that we can identify with. Nowadays, myth and heroes are easier to reach. But why does a society create myth and heroes ? Firstly, we are going to see that myth and heroes are created to make people dream or hope and, after, how these heroes are sometimes used as a politic object.

One of the older myth in the world comes from the religion, it’s a judeo-christian idea : the triumph of Good over Evil. This myth is embedded in our culture and remain througt the ages. Besides, this myth had been the main theme of the famous saga Harry Potter where the young heroe triumphs over the forces of darkness. But sometimes, this borders between the Good and the Evil becomes blurred, for example, in the story of Robin Hood who is « robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. »
Some myths are created to gather the people around a hope as eternal youth in the myth of Peter Pan or the success by the merit in the « American Dream ». This last myth continues to be the mainspring of most of the migratory flows towards the american continent which promise glory and money for whom gives itself the means. The American Dream is represented by « self-made man » like Walt Disney or the current president Barack Obama. But sometimes, heroes and myths are created to serve a political purpose.

Indeed, some heroes are put to work to deliver a message to the population. For instance, at the beggining of the Vietnam War, the soldiers were heroized by the government to try to justify this fight. The cinema have had an important role in this propaganda. In the movie The Green Berets directed by John Wayne, the first twenty minutes are dediced to the explanation of the whys the America participating in the Vietnam War. Similarly, Captain America is the best example of the embodiment of the american values. His costume is based on the Stars and Stripes, the American Flag. In his adventures, Captain America is fighting against the America’s ennemies as the Nazism, the Communism or the Fascism. Captain America gives a protective picture of the America which confirm its status of the policeman’s world in the eyes of the public.

To conclude, people needs heroes and myths to hope and to have a model. The recent heroes are men and women like us, with qualities and weaknesses. Myth and heroes, created or not by a form of political power, allow to strengthen the social cohesion of people. We can note that certain legend, as the Arthur’s legend, have evolved and have progressed. So, we can ask ourself if myths and heroes wouldn’t follow the social evolution to adapt itself to our time.
