Notion/ idea of progress

The idea of progress

The idea of progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change - a technical, scientific or social advance which contributes to making the world a better place for our generation and the next. I have to say that progress is a subjective notion.
What effect does this progress have on our society?
The first aspect of the notion which is important to me is the scientific advence. Secondly, I will try to explain why we should link progress and mentalities.

I- Scientifics advence
First of all, I would like to talk about scientifics progress because it's a representation of our actual world where the techology become better every day. This technology is usefull for our every day life and allows us to have better communications between us. For exemple, in class, we studied the case of old people who write articles on blogs almost everyday to be a part of our society, to not be longer exlude. To me, scientific advence allows them to exprem themselves because without internet and computers, they would not have been able to express themselves and to be listened. However, scientific advences could be a danger if it's not use for good so I think we have to monitor this.

II- evolution of mentalities
To talk about evolution of mentalities, I would like explain it: it seem to me like an evolution of the thinking of our society. For exemple, in class, we learned a lot about homosexual cause. We read a text about a man who came out to his mother thanks to a letter while his mother is part of a movement against gay people. This man who came out embodies the idea of progress because if he wasn't on this society which become more tolerant everyday and on this time, he wouldn't do that. We could talk about Saffraz Manzoor who was born in Pakistan and moved to Britain. In class, we studied a text where he was talking about the curiosity on him and on his culture traditions. He tell us a moment of his life where he was interogate by his mum's friend. I thinks that this curiosity is an opening on others cultures and ways of lifes and these issues although they were troublesome have allowed the evolution of the mentality and prejudices of the mother in question.

We could say, as conclusion that since his born, humanity is progressing. The humanity evolue, sometimes for better and sometimes for worst but the humanity tendance is to tolerance as we just saw. So I think we could say that humanity is in constant progress as scientific as ideological.
