RULES
WHILE is a conjunction and is followed by a clause (subject + verb)
DURING is a preposition and is followed by a noun. It has a similar meaning to while.
FOR is a preposition and is followed by a time expression. It answers the question How long ?

Exercice: complete the sentences with while, during or for

1. I fell and hurt myself ---- I was playing tennis.
2. It started to rain ------the match.
3. We played tennis ------- two hours.
4. I worked in Italy -------- three years.
5. ------the summer, I stayed on a farm in Tuscany.
6. I learned Italian -------I was there.
7. We went on holiday in Florida ------three weeks.
8. -------the day, it was very hot, but it was cool at night.
9. We went to Disneyland ------- we were there.
10. We had a lovely meal yesterday. We sat at the table ----- three hours.
11. ------the meal, we exchanged news.

Morenita: 7 ? - 9 ? ==> 9. We went to Disneyland ... we were there.(there is no mistake here??) ==> this sentence was in relation with 8 ==> that means: ...... we were in Florida
Pascaline: 8 ==> the day isn't a clause ==> during the way
